Dec. 16th, 2008 09:57 amGood to know I'm not the only one who thinks Code Geass >>> Gundam 00.
Code Geass = mind games, human weaknesses, politics (there's more of it in season 2), messing about with loyalties, Big Mistakes, ultimate betrayals, saying hurtful lies because the truth is even more painful, everyone having different motivations for the same goal.
Gundam 00 = stupid people and silly politics. Politics are always fun, but only if it's clever. I'm not buying into the stuff about an Arab country that still clings to old values but has a QUEEN. Amongst everything else. It's fine if people admit it's all just lol-tastic entertainment, but then people say "this is srs bznz look politics so clever"... same for the characters. The story'd probably be a lot more amazing if they don't keep using the token stupid character's stupidity in every episode. Why hasn't anyone shot Setsuna F Seiei yet?
Nothing wrong with G00 as entertainment - hell, I'm watching it too, it's entertaining - but please, it's not serious business. There are lots of clever bits, just like Code Geass, and CG has its own problems too, but G00 has glaring problems that just make me go ".......", because I'm the sort of person who requires completeness, especially when it's work done by a group of professionals. Quite often G00 had me thinking "that was yet another terrible plot device they just used..."
To me, Gundam Seed is also better than G00. I still have to pluck up the courage to watch GSD though.
And...
I've been wanting to ask this: why is it that in anime, whenever there are Chinese characters they are usually done in a certain way no matter what timeline or universe the story is set in? orz

Date: 2008-12-16 10:46 am (UTC)I was just telling Unni how, to get me to like a character, don't show me his stupid side first. Once you got me to like him you can show me his stupid, but if you do it the other way round, and that happens to be the lead char, then... >> Which is why I didn't watch very much of Gundam Seed Destiny - while mechas caused riots and everyone was running for their lives, the lead char went to slide down a slope to retrieve the pink phone his sister had dropped because it was her favourite phone. Said phone then repeatedly becomes the symbol of trauma for the lead char. But every time I see it, rather than recognise his trauma, I just remember his stupid. orz In general I find excessive stupidity really infuriating, which is why Setsuna makes me cringe so hard.
I really don't like Clamp. Can't stand them. (I still think X is one of the biggest piece of crap ever, and every other Clamp manga I tried... er, just no.) But Code Geass was okay for me because although they designed the characters, I think they had nothing (or very little) to do with the plot.
I didn't say there's anything wrong with liking different things. >> I just think CG is way more exciting than G00 because it pushes my buttons rather than make me want to *headpalm* constantly.

Date: 2008-12-16 11:02 am (UTC)Clamp can't do plot at all, obviously, but I also dislike their art style. I guess I might get around that if CG has other good things.
Oh, I was just rambling. And I can totally see why you'd like CG more. I enjoy 00 in a detached way. I like the sparkles and the stupid and the crossdressing, but it's not very good.

Date: 2008-12-16 11:08 am (UTC)I generally go for plot more than art, but being pretty, or interesting looking, does help catch my interest.

Date: 2008-12-16 11:10 am (UTC)Double-oh is fun entertainment, and while Seed drew me in much more, I appreciate the lack of Humongous Angst in 00 so far. I just wish they had a proper double-oh running around.... *ducks*
