This is what I don't understand: why do people make their sharing journals as PERSONAL journals rather than communities?
This doesn't matter, of course, if the LJ is open. I can use the track function to find out when there is an update, or just pop-over every now and then to check. But if it's "comment here and I'll add you so that you can see scans", then I have a problem.
With
todokanai, I don't mind at all, because I know who owns it and that person is on my flist anyway. But I don't want to have to add a LJ of a random person to my flist just to see scans - the person with that login can see my flocked entries! Why couldn't those people make sharing communities instead, and then giving posting permission to only the comm owner? And then posts can be viewable by members only. They could even set it to "membership requires approval" if they like.
Maybe I'll make a journal, post a few fake entries with it, use it to join some random fandom comms, then use it to friend those LJs. Hmph.

Date: 2008-01-12 02:08 pm (UTC)I used to post everything actually on the comms, and not in a locked lj at all, and people stole so much of it and hotlinked that I got sick of it :(
Oh, and:

Quite a few people do that anyway, actually. :x

Date: 2008-01-12 02:22 pm (UTC)I understand your reasoning, I really do. I hate filters and don't like sharing my personal thoughts, etc. with people who are only there for the fic. But I don't have time to create a new journal or a ficsite. So, oh well. :D

I actually wish I could just leave everything unlocked, it's so much fucking easier. But tardbags go and ruin it. >|
Plus it was sort of an accidental thing to end up being a doujinshi archive, and EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE ME ANWYAY >| so tough cookies. :D

Date: 2008-01-12 02:31 pm (UTC)I know exactly what you mean. I hate having to be nice when I really want to talk about so-and-so's big dumb stupidness and can't because she watches my journal and why oh why didn't I separate them long ago???
Oh, well. It's not nice to talk behind someone's back anyway so it's probably for the best that I don't. Though that might be why so many people want to set me on fire.
I LOVE YOU LEAHFACE.

Date: 2008-01-12 02:58 pm (UTC)The reason there are comms is so that everyone doesn't have to have 1000 people friended and can instead just join one main comm and still receive the contributions and share things with those 1000 people all at once.
To me it looks like friend padding and selfishness. Like the whole 'I don't feel I'm being praised enough so I'm going to make them show me that I'm important and they'll have to friend me for things and grovel before my feet' type vibes.
I understand people have private sharing ljs or comms but as long as they aren't rigging fake links to locked entries on the main comm I'm fine with it. But when they do what that girl did on the tenipuri comm it bugs me.
And I ranted but it's a topic that bothers me since I see more people leaning towards this and I just feel that these tactics do nothing but hurt fandom.
edit: I also want to know whatever happened to people posting directly to comms. It seems like more and more people link off to their own lj for downloads, fics, art etc. I miss the days where people posted directly to the comm.
And I also wonder why more people don't question those who think it's okay to post on a comm to locked personal entries. It bothers me when fandom lets people get away with things that bug so many people.

Date: 2008-01-12 04:32 pm (UTC)I've been doing that lately on Tenipuri, mostly for people linking locked fanfic. It's rude, imo, to link to locked entries on public communities.'
Like you, I miss the days of scans being available on the communities, not special scan-only/whatever locked journals. Why not post a locked comm entry if they're worried about things?

Date: 2008-01-12 04:47 pm (UTC)I definitely don't get the need to link to locked fanfic. Just repost on the comm if you don't want it public in your lj. Or make a fic lj. Alright, I understand people want to keep all their comments together or not lose their fic in a comm but that's what the handy memory feature is for. They'll get more audience if people don't have to jump through hoops.
Yeah... I don't really get it. I don't care if people have their dj sharing ljs especially if they're sharing for more than one fandom like otakupink does but to then post links on a comm back to a locked entry is just not cool.

Date: 2008-01-12 04:30 pm (UTC)That said, it is irritating when people link locked entries and that's, imo, rude. So, fine if they're locked, just don't link to locked entries is all and maybe have a week a year amnesty of "advertizing" their scans, then go back to merrily posting to flocked entries.

Date: 2008-01-13 01:21 am (UTC)>_> Because I'm a bad person who sometimes checks someone's flist first before friending.
