I was going to scan and rip PureBoys things, but just found out they are downloadable over at [livejournal.com profile] pureboys. Some entries are locked, though, you'll have to join to download them.

Which reminds me of the mystery of the way people share things.

Given the following:
1) The files hosted are on file-sharing sites, not on somebody's own server
2) The community is unmoderated, everyone's free to join and post
3) The OP does not have a grudge against other comms

Why do people post to, for example, [livejournal.com profile] pureboys, and say there that "I'd normally crosspost to [livejournal.com profile] tenipuri_myu too, but not this time, just want to share it here"? Initially I thought they wanted to encourage others to join the comm, but they don't post to other places advertising that the files are downloadable if they join this certain community.

It's not just this one comm, of course. I see it happening in different places and I don't understand why. Am I missing the point somewhere?

More on "crossposting":

Here is when and where to use the note "crossposted to [blah]": when you've posted something in one place (eg. your LJ) and linked it to other places (eg. LJ comms), you add the note to the original post where the content is, ie, the your actual LJ post. It helps you keep track of where it's been advertised, in case you need to go back and edit the posts.

You do not put the note on the comm posts saying "it's been posted to blah and blahblah". Nobody's interested in that. If I'm in both those comms, I'll know that it's been crossposted because I'll see it twice. If I'm in just one of those comms, I'm not interested in knowing that you linked it somewhere else as well. All you're doing is making your announcement post longer, and if you've posted to 5 comms that are all on my flist, your unnecessary longer posts just take up even more room on my friends page and I don't need to be told 5 times that you're "sorry if you see this 5 times". Chances are I either won't care or won't forgive you anyway.

Somebody emailed me photos of a whale being carried on a truck down the road, somewhere in Taiwan possibly. The whale'd been cut open and its guts were spilling out. I really didn't need to see that.

Niou-hedgehog came with me to work. :D

I've been asked to call and chase up on something for work, but I've never heard of the guy, don't have his contact details, and don't know what's going on with that work.

Not knowing the comm it's hard to say in this case, but maybe they think the content is more appropriate for this one community? Or maybe they've just been ripped a new one for crossposting all over the place and are not feeling brave.

Ah. 5 out of 7 of the guys in PureBoys are active or have just graduated in the current Tenimyu. That's where they found fame, so to speak. People discuss PureBoys in Tenimyu comms because they're so closely associated.

That could be the case.......

So it all depends on how much of a stickler one is, I suppose. XD

It's just strange, I think. Especially with "normally I'd share PB things there, but these files I won't".... it isn't like it's been uploaded to a private server or something. =_=" Both comms have open membership anyway.

I hate having to join [livejournal.com profile] tenipuri_myu, [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_no_ouji AND [livejournal.com profile] pureboys just to be sure I can download files of Yagami Ren. WTF.

I feel you on that one :(

I don't want to join 2308947289034728937423 communities. I sort of wish things could get posted in a central spot.

It'd be really useful if the track function is available to everyone (not just paid users) and when posting, people remember to tag posts properly. That way, I could unfriend the comm and just track it for any posts that's tagged "yagami ren", for example...

But that requires people being organised, and it's impossible with large comms, I suppose. =/

It really shouldn't be possible for a wooden spoon to purr. Especially not an icon of one. >_>;

I don't know about anyone else but I absolutely hate crossposting. And by that, I mean for myself, I hate posting things to multiple communities.

Back when I was a member of the tenimyu comm, I'd post there, and maybe ONE other place. I'm a member of [livejournal.com profile] tenipuri_myu now, and I generally post a link from there to my personal LJ, and post the things on my LJ, and I quit locking posts.

I always felt like crossposting to more than two or three communities was just annoying and that I would be attentionwhoring and that I just shouldn't do it. I never really bothered to leave notes in other comms saying 'COME GET YER DLS K' because I felt that was just as much spam as spamming the stuff, perhaps moreso. :X

I know this isn't how MOST people think, but that's my mindset, so that's why I tend to post things in only one place other than my own LJ or such.

The only time I've ever really stipulated that I don't want my files posted a certain place was when I caught people reposting them in the tenimyu comm. I left there for a reason, and I don't want my stuff promoting community activity. Bitter, yes? But that's why. >> But you mentioned grudges aside, so :X Nevermind. I'm too inconsiderate to backspace all this, now. :D

Some people might just be lazy, or have friends that are only in a particular comm or something and just not post to others, perhaps.

Sometimes I wish everyone would just post their stuff one place, because the majority of comms are just rehashed posts of reposted links over and over again anyway.

:(((((( Poor whale.

The only things I bother crossposting are my fics. After becoming aware of the spam I was causing, I now "collect" a few fics before crossposting them, rather than doing it for every goddamn drabble I write. (I wish people would stop posting drabbles everyday. At least have a few before they make a post, dammit)

AFAIK all the myu fans that care enough to download stuff watchin tenipuri_myu anyway, there is no need to crosspost to places. Might be different for previous casts, perhaps it might be good to post to d_boys etc, but yeah...

Do we even need so many comms in the first place? I think Yagami fans would be watching [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_no_ouji but just in case they miss something, would always watch [livejournal.com profile] tenipuri_myu, too. So might as well just post everything to the one comm... yes, one day he'll move on from the myu (;_;) but until then, just the one place is enough. *sigh*

Yeah, I generally post everything to tenipuri_myu unless someone is like 'Hey, go post it ovar here pls'. Like Shirota's PB, which I can justify, since he's left the myu's for a while now, and people who are into him might be into him for say, his dramas, or because of D-BOYS or what ever the hell else.

I actually have a separate lurker LJ account I use for communities only. X3 It cuts back on the amount of garbage I normally used to see every day.

I generally use discretion. I had a bunch of the original songs that the PureBOYS covered, and I posted those in the PureBOYS comm, since well, it's not related to Tenimyu, even though PureBOYS are. Scans of current actors? Go in the myu comm. Info about the oldest casts? Probably goes in their dedicated comms, or their group comms (D-BOYS, Kimeru, Kazuki, et cetera). It's pretty self explanatory but I guess when people are sharing stuff, they want the maximum 'reach', so.. >> yeah.

I mean if people were clogging up the myu comm with every single new drama role and release for every single past actor, it'd be so freaking hard to sift through stuff. Stuff cycles in relation to the current cast so... I wish people had more common sense. :x

Remember kids, think before you post ;; The spam you save could be your own! ;o

(I thought about starting a Kanesaki Kentaro comm, but then kicked myself. I hope nobody starts one until Tenimyu is well and truly over.)

And um, I think when people say they just want to share things in a certain place, they mean they think the other comm's watchers won't be receptive, not them wanting to share exclusively. As in, they are just thinking out loud about where they post.

... Er, that's how I understand it most of the times, anyway.
