Crossposting
Oct. 11th, 2007 11:03 amI was going to scan and rip PureBoys things, but just found out they are downloadable over at
pureboys. Some entries are locked, though, you'll have to join to download them.
Which reminds me of the mystery of the way people share things.
Given the following:
1) The files hosted are on file-sharing sites, not on somebody's own server
2) The community is unmoderated, everyone's free to join and post
3) The OP does not have a grudge against other comms
Why do people post to, for example,
pureboys, and say there that "I'd normally crosspost to
tenipuri_myu too, but not this time, just want to share it here"? Initially I thought they wanted to encourage others to join the comm, but they don't post to other places advertising that the files are downloadable if they join this certain community.
It's not just this one comm, of course. I see it happening in different places and I don't understand why. Am I missing the point somewhere?
More on "crossposting":
Here is when and where to use the note "crossposted to [blah]": when you've posted something in one place (eg. your LJ) and linked it to other places (eg. LJ comms), you add the note to the original post where the content is, ie, the your actual LJ post. It helps you keep track of where it's been advertised, in case you need to go back and edit the posts.
You do not put the note on the comm posts saying "it's been posted to blah and blahblah". Nobody's interested in that. If I'm in both those comms, I'll know that it's been crossposted because I'll see it twice. If I'm in just one of those comms, I'm not interested in knowing that you linked it somewhere else as well. All you're doing is making your announcement post longer, and if you've posted to 5 comms that are all on my flist, your unnecessary longer posts just take up even more room on my friends page and I don't need to be told 5 times that you're "sorry if you see this 5 times". Chances are I either won't care or won't forgive you anyway.
Somebody emailed me photos of a whale being carried on a truck down the road, somewhere in Taiwan possibly. The whale'd been cut open and its guts were spilling out. I really didn't need to see that.
Niou-hedgehog came with me to work. :D
I've been asked to call and chase up on something for work, but I've never heard of the guy, don't have his contact details, and don't know what's going on with that work.

Date: 2007-10-11 10:32 am (UTC)Not knowing the comm it's hard to say in this case, but maybe they think the content is more appropriate for this one community?
Or maybe they've just been ripped a new one for crossposting all over the place and are not feeling brave.no subject

Date: 2007-10-11 12:49 pm (UTC)Back when I was a member of the tenimyu comm, I'd post there, and maybe ONE other place. I'm a member of
I always felt like crossposting to more than two or three communities was just annoying and that I would be attentionwhoring and that I just shouldn't do it. I never really bothered to leave notes in other comms saying 'COME GET YER DLS K' because I felt that was just as much spam as spamming the stuff, perhaps moreso. :X
I know this isn't how MOST people think, but that's my mindset, so that's why I tend to post things in only one place other than my own LJ or such.
The only time I've ever really stipulated that I don't want my files posted a certain place was when I caught people reposting them in the tenimyu comm. I left there for a reason, and I don't want my stuff promoting community activity. Bitter, yes? But that's why. >> But you mentioned grudges aside, so :X Nevermind. I'm too inconsiderate to backspace all this, now. :D
Some people might just be lazy, or have friends that are only in a particular comm or something and just not post to others, perhaps.
Sometimes I wish everyone would just post their stuff one place, because the majority of comms are just rehashed posts of reposted links over and over again anyway.
:(((((( Poor whale.

Date: 2007-10-11 12:54 pm (UTC)I don't want to join 2308947289034728937423 communities. I sort of wish things could get posted in a central spot.

Date: 2007-10-11 01:04 pm (UTC)AFAIK all the myu fans that care enough to download stuff watchin tenipuri_myu anyway, there is no need to crosspost to places. Might be different for previous casts, perhaps it might be good to post to d_boys etc, but yeah...
Do we even need so many comms in the first place? I think Yagami fans would be watching

Date: 2007-10-11 01:13 pm (UTC)I actually have a separate lurker LJ account I use for communities only. X3 It cuts back on the amount of garbage I normally used to see every day.
I generally use discretion. I had a bunch of the original songs that the PureBOYS covered, and I posted those in the PureBOYS comm, since well, it's not related to Tenimyu, even though PureBOYS are. Scans of current actors? Go in the myu comm. Info about the oldest casts? Probably goes in their dedicated comms, or their group comms (D-BOYS, Kimeru, Kazuki, et cetera). It's pretty self explanatory but I guess when people are sharing stuff, they want the maximum 'reach', so.. >> yeah.
I mean if people were clogging up the myu comm with every single new drama role and release for every single past actor, it'd be so freaking hard to sift through stuff. Stuff cycles in relation to the current cast so... I wish people had more common sense. :x
Remember kids, think before you post ;; The spam you save could be your own! ;o
