Jul. 20th, 2007 10:53 pmWow, the flooding across Britain is very dramatic.
I feel very left out, not being a HP fan. I've read the first three books and they didn't appeal to me - in fact I can hardly remember the events in those books. Perhaps I read them when I wasn't feeling too good and that ruined things...
I stand on top of making bread and butter pudding.

Date: 2007-07-20 10:48 pm (UTC)she can't spell
she puts words like doorsrs
and borther
and Hargid
shakes fist
i could forgive her if she could spell
but Artemis Fowl is better
I will read it, but only out of the same dread fascination with which i finish most things i start

Date: 2007-07-20 11:23 pm (UTC)But I didn't really feel any typos if there were any detracted from the story.
And if we're talking about typing and grammar mistakes pick up any major newspaper. They're flooded with them.

Date: 2007-07-21 11:16 am (UTC)in lily potter's letter she refers to a mysterious Garry, not once but twice
I genuinely thought he had a twin
and then there's word misuse
I can't think of an example off hand but trust me, I'll find one
Confunding, everyone is confunded in this one, apart from a few lucky souls who are confounded
she uses words that are similar and wrong, like an example NOT in the book slotting coins into his coiffure, or warming himself by the brassiere
the publishing company spend a fortune on printing, they go through it highlight any mistakes and fix them, then they send the version to the author who does the same, this is the last chance to change anything, then they put it through as a mock galley and one last check then the galleys and it's printed.
with a newspaper they're sent out as is because they don't have the time to do the necessary checks, the Grauniad is one of my favourite papers and it's full of mistakes, even in their crossword, but it's only meant to last one day, this book is meant to last a lifetime, the least they could do is run a quick eye over it.
Tolkien paid his son to do it for him, 2p a word for the lord of the rings, perhaps Miss Rowling could have done the same.

Date: 2007-07-21 11:04 am (UTC)we all know it
she has a really sloppy editor
but I have read the new one now, my housemate brought it in last night and i read it
at several points she calls him Garry
I spent a good five minutes thinking he had an evil twin
well, then she should fire her typist,
all books have mistakes that get through
but it's the volume that bothers me, and in most cases it's nothing a good quick spell check wouldn't solve, it's pretty much at least one a page, especially in the later books.

Date: 2007-07-29 07:28 am (UTC)*points up to girl's comment about "Garry"*
I'm thinking maybe it's just the British editors who suck, because it ain't in my copy, nor are ... well, anything she said. *snort*
(Also sort of wonder what this "Miss" business is, considering Rowling's married...)

Date: 2007-07-21 03:59 pm (UTC)I mean, I can't take a writer who represents shouting through CAPSLOCK OF DOOM AND LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS IN THE MIDDLE OF DIALOGUE LIKE THIS!!! seriously when she's waxing lyrical about the merits of her contribution to the history of literature.
