At my uni, one just could not afford to be lazy. I was like you in school... I was the top student in school, but uni was just completely different. It was a top uni and everyone there was smarter than me. The shock was totally wtf. Though, with the sort of schedule I had (5-7 hours of lectures a day, sometimes), by the end of the day I just died, really. I was only studious at exam times because on normal days, there was only enough time left to do coursework!

*nodnod* It depends so much on the people. I was okay with the other students, but it wasn't until I started going out with the ex that I started hanging out with people more. I was also lucky that another Chinese girl from my school went to the same course as me, so I could always depend on her. Even though we weren't particularly close, we boarded together for 7 years and had a sort of "kinship".

I don't know what German unis are like... do you get a lot of clubs and societies? At mine there were cultural ones (Chinese soc), sports ones (paragliding) and oddball ones (wine tasting), so there were always chances to have some sort of an enjoyable student life even if the classmates were all asses.
