Got the headsup from lechaco and went to check: Infernal Affairs remake - Initially thought Brad Pitt will play the bad guy, with Leo DiCaprio being the good guy. Now it looks like Matt Damon's going to be the bad guy. I can so see this film becoming a major hit in US.

My extremities are so very cold. Did wrap up warm this morning, and now I'm thinking I don't care, I'll wear my coat even indoors.

Going to the pub to have cheesy chips this lunch time! *YAY*

Product placement in TV

The TV production companies get money from it, of course. But with correct use, brand names can add depth to story and character to creative work, in my opinion. In [The City], I've mentioned that Yukimura drives a white Merc and Sanada a black Audi. It makes use of the stereotypical thinking of what a Merc driver and an Audi driver is like. If I say that Yagyuu enters a, say, Starbucks, rather than just a cafe/coffee house, it also helps the reader imagine the scene. The logo, the green decor, the Starbucks mugs on a shelf... and if I say he orders a caramel frappucino (which he wouldn't, btw), some may be able to recall that sweet, cold taste on their tongues. It helps people associate with the story. SR's Niou drank Lucozade Sports because, at the time of writing, Lucozade Sports's motto had been "keeps top atheletes going 33% longer". Sanada used to make Rikkai drink it and Niou found the motto very fitting for him, for he just wanted to keep going.

Like it said in the second half of the article, the key word should be "realism". Product placement isn't always bad, I believe. Overuse and blatant advertising, though, are both bad taste.

Anyway. Thank God that subliminal advertising is illegal (I think?).
