But there is cake.
Jun. 19th, 2009 10:36 amThe pavement specialist landed me in trouble yesterday. That's why I don't like talking to him. He never understands the question, never tells you the thing you want to know - no, this is not a trial, we can't use [shiny new proprietary product] here just to test if it does what it says on the tin. We have to use something that complies with the fucking standards (which change all the damn time). Oh god, please don't suggest to me something that's been taken off the DMRB recently even though you knew that and I didn't and now I look like a fucking idiot. Also, we're talking about the fucking London South Circular which we cannot afford to shut down or even traffic-manage and do a full-depth reconstruction. Network Assurance won't have it. And slip of the tongue - HMB35 ≠ DBM50. orz I like specialist person, he's a nice person. But his mouth and his brain are often not connected together, he's worked in the lab for longer than I've lived and he just doesn't get it that repairing roads in London is not the same as lab testing or doing a brand new motorway. But I respect him because he really does know his stuff and he is recognised by the industry because of that. Sadly he's old and he fails to communicate that expertise.
MeganeSteve tried to compare what we're doing for £2k fee for a 200m stretch of the TLRN to something he does for £££ for bloody motorways. Can we please be fair? And of course there are no supply problems when you order EME2 by the container-load. Did you know that last time we used it for a bus stop the manufacturer refused to produce it unless they could tie it with a big job that already needs EME2?
*snips the rest* I feel abused.
On a happier note, <sparkle>THERE IS CAKE</sparkle>. One of the secretaries here bakes the most amazing cakes. Literally, the best homemade cake I have ever eaten. How can it be this soft and moist? I need to ask her for the recipes.
[Siege/Surrender] ch.15 and ch.16 are up.
