I'm going to be the only one left on LJ. lol?

In other news, I've perfected the skill of "how to tell you your design is completely shit without using the word 'shit'". And also "here's how I rant about your crappy design for five pages. And here's my cock, suck on it."

I'm pretty sure there will still be a few of us clinging to LJ.

I'm not particularly opposed to people relocating (it's their own journals afterall) but it is getting a tad annoying. And it's kinda weird how people are showing so much interest and (it seems like) faith in a new service when, as far as I can see, they haven't really proved much yet. Though I suppose to some, anything that doesn't do PR the way LJ does = good enough.

Anyway, by the time I hear about DW, a lot of people had considered moving/moved/decided to use both DW and LJ, but none of those people bothered to tell me things like "hey, ever heard of this shiny new thing?" although they seemed to have talked a lot amongst themselves about it somewhere I can't see. So I suppose I'm just not l33t enough for it!

I can't use the sandwich method here. XD I'm doing a design check on some road designs, so all I'm allowed to do is criticise. XDDDDDD Without using the word "shit". XDDDDD

Oh I know what you mean. *nod* That's more or less how I feel about things too.

XDDDD I'm not much mof a pink fan either but that shade of pink is okay for me. DW's site design is less "coporate", though, I suppose, and that's attractive to a lot of people. Personally I don't care what their own site looks like as long as I can customise my journal page!

When the site is open I might sign up for an account - not to use it, but just so that my current name here on LJ wouldn't be taken up by someone over there trying to impersonate me for whatever reason. (You never know, some people have too much time on their hands.) I'm a bit curious about their crosspost-to-LJ feature... is it some sort of Open-ID related stuff? Isn't giving another site your LJ username and password a bit... well, not necessarily dangerous, but probably not a very good idea? I suppose I take the risk when I use third-party software like Semagic to post, but still... how is that supposed to work, I wonder?

(Maybe I should go to DW and see what they have to say about that before asking questions, though.)

Yeah I checked that out as well. I find their "License to Reproduce Content" clause pretty interesting. Been trying to search for a similar clause on LJ but haven't found it yet. But maybe I'm just being blind?

Yeah. Also, although what you posted on the internet publically bascially means anyone can read it anyway, to give them rights to "modify and adapt" is rather WTF, even if it's "solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting the contents of your account".

..........I don't want my journal promoted. Ever.

Probably...

Also, just found out that it's not through openID, people literally just give DW their LJ username and password to crosspost. orz But it's still in testing stage anyway.

Facebook is scary, and their security famously non-existent, so I still don't get why anybody'd trust them with passwords!

I only lurk on google talk these days (and mostly hide under invisible XD) yukiscorpio at gmail dot com!

I'm still here. I don't really understand this urge to move. I never did use my IJ, and I don't imagine DW will be any different than all the other backup journals - if I even sign up for one.

Same. LJ does suck on some levels (mostly PR), but it used to be good when there were fewer accounts. I get the feeling that once any site get to the size LJ has, it'll end up the same anyway. But maybe I'll be proved wrong and that'd be a great thing.

Wait. I'm not in the loop. Why are people flocking away from LJ again? 10:1 says they'll be back within a month.

Well, whatever. I lost any enthusiasm for new sites way back, so you can add my name to the list of people going to wherever the new site is. Way too much trouble, in any case.

Really? Just exactly what is the new site? The little I've heard says that it's essentially the same as LJ with a few minor additions. See? Really out of the loop (does this mean I should change my timing guess to 6 months - it was based on the amount of time average people spend playing with formats for personalization plus some time to post a bit before getting sick of their new toy and going back to 'old reliable' XD).

Oh I'm not in the loop either. People are talking about it so I went to poke at the site. Nobody actually ever talked TO me about it. *shrugs* which is what I mean when I said I'm obviously not l33t enough. Out of the clique. Unpopular. Not wanted over there. XD

Yeah, I'm perm-accounted here, so I think I'm content to stay on LJ. Most of the folks I know who've snagged DW accounts are just cross-posting everything anyway, as far as I can tell.

It's amazing, with all these people freaking out over different LJ filters and how people might repost their flocked entries and stuff, they're happy to give another website their LJ username and password, just to crosspost.

Since I'm a free account person, I figure I might as well have a DW account (I have an IJ too, which I use on occasion). I'll probably crosspost anything not site-specific, so switching between the two. It's easier to track people that way, I find, and I'm used to maintaining accounts across ridiculous numbers of sites anyway so /shrug/.

So far, I'm liking the set-up over there so we'll see how it goes. I don't see myself dropping LJ altogether, though.

Date: 2009-04-21 01:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com
DW does look promising, but so far it's all PR and they haven't proven themselves yet. It'll take a big event (like copyright or porn problems) for them to really prove their worth, I think. Otherwise it's all just marketing. I'm gonna sit tight and see how you guys get on! But yeah, being a perm account person, there's little reason for me to move anyway unless LJ really pisses me off.

Probably! I'm not really opposed to a new journal service if it proves itself to be better, but so far it hasn't really proved anything yet and it's really special how people are so sparkly about it.

Oh well, not that my voice matters but...I'm out of the loop too! I never knew there was a new service. So I'm permanently on LJ. If you consider my dropping out of the Earth and coming back alive for a weeks, "permanently" that is.

I also find it amusing that people seem to have Faith in DW. I think it's mostly because of their diversity statement and the way they explain stuff to everyone even though not everyone will understand what they're talking about; it seems to me that it's kind of an online trend these days, making people feel involved in order to get them to believe in your service and therefore work "with" you to make it work even though they might be charging you money for that opportunity. I think it's a clever business move, especially for a site that's just starting out, and I know more than one person who'll be paying them for their service on the 30th just because they like the dream they're selling.

That being said, I make myself an account most everywhere, so I'll be there too 8D.

I post like once in a quater or so I am not moving anywhere ))) and I was totally ignorant about all this migrating thing before you mentioned it (which kinda gives me hope that people I enjoy reading/exchanging a word every now and then have no plans of leaving)

and as a general observation - I totally second what you said about having multiple accounts a few posts back. I just can't imagine how people manage them all. I have a russian-language journal on another server (much more user friendly then lj, btw) and this one - and that looks like my ultimate capacity )) I started an account at the russian version of a Facebook but abandoned it in a couple of weeks time after the registration because it just got to be too much. I cant be everywhere and track conversations and keep up to date etc. Some of my friends are doing that and that's a truly amazing thing.
