Achhh, what a nightmare! I've had a google around as well, most people don't know but suggest its something to do with the graphics card, but, if the other houses are showing up fine why shouldn't those ones? :S
You can save your families though! Although it's not that easy to move them to a different hood cos they won't appear in that hood's families bin (It's dumb I know ¬.¬) You'd have to package them and export them out of the game, then put them back in again. There's a little option to do so when they are in the family bin. Though many people say that method is bad cos it fucks with their character files... (Sims is srs bsns I tell you....)
There's probably a tutorial that shows you how to do it in SimPE if you follow that you should be able to safely move your families.
You should probably move to a clean neighbourhood with no other existing lots/families. If by chance the problem still happens, reinstall the game. :X
drjtkhlraekhtalert ah Pez what a kerfuffle, I don't know what else to say except Sims can sometimes implode on itself and you're left scratching your head. I hope someone on MTS can help you, it would be a pain to lose all your hard work ;.; (I don't want graves of your Rikkai sims :( )
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ah well, in the worst case I'll start again. It's not all that bad because since making D1 and Troika, I've downloaded better hair for Renji and some really nice eyes and lips, so I can make them again, but prettier, I suppose. XD;;;;;;;; *looks on the bright side?*
The kaput-ness is probably a sign that I should be working on switching_it_up instead of playing games. D:
Yeah I suppose it's not the end of the world. Although you can't ignore the fact that the whole game might have gone pear shaped somewhere... Best to reinstall though, if you are planning to start again.
Yeeaaahhh this is what you get for abusing Sims too much >D

Here's an FAQ that's on modthesims but requires SimPE. It's a powerful user made program but looks very daunting. http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Moving_Sims
