Jul. 15th, 2008 01:51 pmAm I bad?
(Way to go, man. Putting words in my mouth - and admitting doing so - and then saying I was impolite when I'd explained why I was impolite in the first place. And finally saying "it's done" after exchange comments that really weren't needed in the first place to make me look like a really bad guy. I don't know what to say apart from giving them a thumbs-up! Not the only one responded with sarcasm initially, but the only one from the bunch who went ahead to try to give a helpful suggestion of LJ-Cut etc to remedy the situation. So yeah. Surely I'm a bad person.)

Date: 2008-07-15 01:02 pm (UTC)I do believe in diversity and internet bringing all sorts of people together and it might be seen as quite unfair that everyone should use English on the board, but only communication can bring integration and unfortunately most people don't speak that many languages.

Date: 2008-07-15 01:08 pm (UTC)you are so right! I mean, I can understand what they're saying (which makes the whole thing even more ridiculous and stupid) since German is my mother tongue, but my first reaction was annoyance about the fact that they didn't bother to write this entry in English...in a mostly English speaking community!
but I don't think that they possess enough intelligence to understand what you're implying with your comment...*facepalms*
p.s.: I so love your icon!

Date: 2008-07-15 04:06 pm (UTC)The sad (well, not sad for me XD;;;) fact is that English is the language spoken by more people as a second language than any other language in the world. It's the language you're probably going to be able to find someone to speak with if you're in a random foreign country (on average, at least), so it makes sense that it's the language of the net.
IIRC there are a few non-English comms aren't there? Isn't there one for the Pinoy girls? On those comms--sure, you'd be expected to speak the language of the comm. On a generic comm, where only English has been spoken? English, hon. English. I find it hard that you could so easily "forget" to post something in the language everything else is posted in, but I guess it's an accident -_-;;

Date: 2008-07-15 04:18 pm (UTC)Lots of people on the comm aren't native English speakers, but they try anyway, and I really love that because it promotes integration. I mean, they could be great people, but I wouldn't know unless we start talking to each other and English is the common language. Maybe if we become friends I can start learning a bit about your language and culture! But the first step has to be communication in a way we all understand. The "comm rules said nothing about this being an English comm" excuse is just so, so lame. The comm rule also didn't say you can't announce on the comm that you're going to stalk uh, Shirota Yuu for serious. It is Tenimyu related, but sometimes... you know? A line needs to be drawn. So I totally agree with you!
I think there are German and Spanish comms, but not sure about other languages. Personally I would've settled for English intro + LJ-cut to German text, since that comm is large and all that...
She said she forgot. *shrug* I'm more "..." about her making me out to be a bad person out of other people who also replied, because I tried to give her a suggestion to turn the situation around. Meh.

Date: 2008-07-15 04:37 pm (UTC)she only replied to me once (and that in German) and I already saw that this is a lost case, because if someone is stubborn and stupid, I'd rather save my energy for something else...*shakes head*
still thinking of pillar Saito icon...seriously somebody needs to make this baby! ^-^
