D1 is a pairing in Prince of Tennis. XD Niou/Yagyuu or Yagyuu/Niou, because they play First Doubles in PoT.

There's lots of D1 out there to read. Pimping myself would be tactless, but even rikkai_exchange has an awful lot.

I've read all the RE ones already!

My bad, then. Didn't think you had read all of the D1 fics there yet.

It's something I've been wanting to talk to you about, but I was going to wait until after the reveal. I know which fic is the one you wrote - it's pretty easy to tell - and my reason for not commenting on it is that I've written a story with a very similar plot back in 2004/5. I suppose it's not that particular an amazing plotline, but a few weeks ago when I posted a WIP about Niou having to take care of a baby that isn't his, you commented saying it was "eerily similar" to one you've written, which I presume is genderswitch Niou having his own baby - tbh I'm not sure, I haven't read it because I don't dig genderswitch. But if it is, I think the two are very different, even if both involve bathroom floors.

Putting the two incidents together, I just don't know what to say except "...............".

....?

I finished my RE before you posted your Niou WIP, actually. And my recipient wanted "classic D1" style plotting, which was something I struggled with writing. So if what you're suggesting, well...

No, no, that's not what I'm suggesting. I've replied to your email.

You know, I'm not sure where the comment about your recipient wanting "classic D1" comes from, really; my memory of the communication between the two of you is that it left you with a bunch of options about the sort of things you could write... possibly you're being a little unfair. You definitely had other routes you could've gone down if you weren't really comfortable with that sort of thing, anyway.

FYI Liz, I emailed a third-party, close friend of the recipient MULTIPLE times and conversed that way to get more info. The third party would ask the recipient questions for me/throw out various plot ideas I had, most of which the recipient didn't seem interested in.

Okay, that's fine.

In general, wouldn't that be a rather hard way to approach an exchange? Most ideas end up sounding real lame if you have to be vague about it (so to make sure it's still fairly exciting to read when it's finally done). "Yagyuu and Niou had a misunderstanding and Niou runs away", "Niou has to spy on & kill Yagyuu", etc, it all sounds really crap like that, whether the finished product is good or not. Wouldn't it be easier and better to just take what the recipient said and run with it, esp. if the recipient had given you a bunch of options?

Well, in many many exchanges I've done in the past I have emailed the recipient, either directly or indirectly and inquired more about what they're into, as signups don't include everything. Besides that, surely you understand what it's like to read prompts and think, "hm...not terribly excited by what they mention here" and want to, as a writer, impart different ideas or concepts into something that YOU have been inspired by.

Um, actually, no? Rather than putting my personal taste first, I just write what's been asked. There are always ways to make things exciting, that's my opinion. If she doesn't like drama (which is almost all that I write), I wouldn't complain about it. I'm fairly flexible with these things and very set on writing what was asked - isn't that the point of an exchange?

Look, what do you want from me? An apology? To pull the fic and say you're right and that I'm a moron for writing something that a) the recipient didn't like and b) no one gives a shit about anyway? To have a big, blinking disclaimer that credits you? Please tell me because I'm kinda tired of discussing this when I fully realize it was a flop and a waste of my time for participating in the first place.

I did try to write what the recipient wanted. And if I still had the emails between myself and the third party, you would be able to read and neatly check off various things I included that the recipient--supposedly--wanted. I'm not complaining, I'm just frustrated and irritated that this is dragged out and I don't know why, okay? I'm frustrated and irritated because you asked for D1 fic, so I mention RE since you never said a word about mine, and then we get into a long discussion/argument/whatever about this, okay?

Who said the recipient didn't like your fic and no one gives a shit about it? It got some really nice comments and the recipient seems happy.

Did you even read my email reply to you? I've already told you there that I'm not upset about your fic having a similar plotline, but that you said mine was similar to yours when it clearly wasn't, and that I understand similarities happen in general. There is no need to jump to the defensive.

My comment on complaining about what the recipient want and does not want is in reference to your post here.

There's never enough d1. NEVER. But, I will have some finished soon. Actually, I have a wip d1 that I can't get right! *stabs it* So, Yagyuu's a serial killer and Niou is a whore, but...hey! we can't all have brains filled with good ideas.

There needs to be Niou-whore fics. I was just telling Liz that I have the mental image of half-dressed Niou counting money in bed!
