People never die; they defer-live
Jun. 29th, 2008 08:22 amOh, for God's sake. Sure, there might be more to it than what's reported, but how far are people going to protect children's feelings these days? If we tell them they never failed, but only deferred-successed, that everybody are friends with them and they'll be invited to all the parties out there, how are they ever going to handle disappointment when they grow up?
Actually, this is now reminding me of the conversation between
tokyostory and me. *snicker* Clearly there's ground to sue for discrimination... against the kid who isn't friends with literally everyone.
I had to look up which one is correct, "between you and me" or "between you and I". English, why are you so difficult. orz

It upsets them for a day at most and then they get on with it. They're more resilient than a lot of people seem to think, and coddling them doesn't do them any good. You've got to prepare them for the world ahead, a world that isn't going to baby them, and by over-protecting them all the way you're cheating them out of developing survival tactics. Meh.

Also: "You never fail, you only succeed in finding out what doesn't work." :D;;

Date: 2008-06-29 10:17 am (UTC)There was a news item a while back about a parent who was upset with her child's school. Apparently they kid had harassed other students and so a teacher had taken him aside and calmly told him that his behaviour was unacceptable and that the he'd have to transfer to a different school if it went on. The parent said that her kid felt violated because of this. Yeah, being told what the consequences of your actions are is so violating. -_-

Date: 2008-06-29 01:20 pm (UTC)The kid invited everyone in the class except 2 kids, of which at least one was a bully. Since this was against the rules the teacher made the kids return the cards. As far as I can tell the school didn't file a complaint or something like that. The parent says that this violated the kids integrity, or something.
