Cosplay stuff!
Oct. 8th, 2007 02:27 pmCosplayers/sewing savvy people - help!
I'm thinking of making the Shinigami costume for a Bleach cosplay.
1) Is it worth making? I could just buy online but with shipping, it seems rather expensive (although, buying material to make things here may end up costing the same as ebay >_>). And less fun. Online pictures are really small anyway, can't see if it's good quality...
2) If I do make it, what sorts of fabric do you suggest for the white outer "coat" and the black kimono?
Help appreciated, thanks!

Date: 2007-10-08 02:35 pm (UTC)If you're going to make it, just make the base out of something relatively heavy and thick, so it doesn't look like you wrapped some black fabric around you, and possibly use a heavier and nicer fabric for the white (but not overly heavy? Since the thing has to blow in the wind and stuff) - just some heavy cotton should do the job I think.
But given that you are going to be needing a lot of said nice fabric it might be more economical to buy the costume, but if you think it's less fun, make the props that go with it yourself?

Date: 2007-10-08 02:56 pm (UTC)one one hand it's the simplest thing you'll ever make and certainly the comfiest.
you need a dark black fabric, you could line black polycotton which would make it light but heavy enough, you might have to weight the edges though with some pilling.
This is a costume that comes out in the ironing not the making
the white haori-kataginu thing would be more complicated because cheap white fabric always looks cheap
you might want to check with a upholster (there is a market stall where i live) and see what they have, it's not much more expensive than polycotton but heavier, a good quality curtain lining cloth could pull it off for you.
Would you use a woman's or men's pattern, because I've noticed Rukia wears the man's
