Jesus. It's audience vote. If they like to vote for their neighbours then so be it. Of course there is politics in there, but how many people would sit at home and think "hmm, since I'm Portugese, I should vote for Spain"? Give it a rest. And btw, guess whose fault it is that UK has no friends in Europe; we practically alienated ourselves from them, so stfu.

Also, Wogan, personal attacks are low and unfunny. Why are you insulting the contestants and the people announcing the points?

And that would be the reason I don't watch it any more. Which is sad because I have a secret softspot for some of the more folksy and operatic entries.

In the few hours of the show, he hasn't said a single positive thing about any performance or any country. He's just been giving one bored insult after another. It's as if it'd hurt him to actually say "oh, that was rather nice, I actually enjoyed that" once in a while.

He insulted one of the Serbia performers twice because she's "funny looking" - basically because she looks like a boy. I want to call BBC and complain.

He has a horrible chauvinistic attitude which I don't find remotely endearing. If most UK viewers find him entertaining then it would probably go a long way to explain why nobody votes for our performers.

My Dad is raging over the polics... XD

But really - Ukraine's song had 14 words in it. We counted. Maybe that's because me and my friends hate Serduchka, but oh well.
And though my compatriots will probably disagree, but our "Silver" is just an average girl-band, nothing outstanding... There were far more interesting candidates there.

France, Britain and Ireland... WHY? T_________________T

It's the entertainment, though! Men in silver shorts dancing weirdly in front of the whole Europe! XD

I thought the British entry was rather entertaining. It's disappointing they got so few votes. But, Serbia was good and they won, I think that matters more. :)

I guess... Maybe it's just because we had to see/listen to him for god knows how many years already! XD

Fair enough, Serbia was good. But I still feel rather bad for some of the artists...

I suppose everyone who enters must know what they're getting themselves into, and the politics and other things involved. Really, there are so many other people in UK here that can sing better than who we put on Eurovision, and it's like that everywhere else. So it's not much of a contest of real talent.......

Yeah, I guess so... But serious and popular artists rarely agree to something like this.

After reading your posts I think I'm glad I ended up watching the last bit on eurovision.tv online.

And I'm rather new to the whole ESC but even watching clips on youtube people in the comments are so harsh. There's always going to be politics and favourites but it's the same with any competition. Like American Idol, people vote for their favourite or the cutest and not always who has the most talent.

But I really like the winner. Not too sure about some of the other songs that got all the way to the top though.

People on the internet. *sigh* *has no words for them*

Exactly! People need to remember that it's not just about the song - it's the whole package, the /entertainment/. Ukraine's entry might be ridiculous but it's upbeat and makes people giggle and that's good entertainment - though not as good as Serbia. XD

Yeah. But I guess we're all allowed our views. Though sometimes I wish people didn't feel the need to express it so loudly all over the place.

I'm not sure how great Serbia was when it came to entertainment but the song just captured my attention (I still don't understand the back up girls weird dancing though) but yeah, Ukraine was definitely very weird but it has all th qualities of a great summer hit that just sweeps a nation until it's stuck in everyone's head all of the time.

I was impressed by the range of songs that were in the competition. From cheesey pop to Opera. I'm sort of sad I only just heard about it this week.

Most of the countries don't operate by phone votes, so almost all of the voting is political. And hilarious. :>

Actually goddess, that's how it works, Portugal usually votes for Spain due to politics, I didn't watch it because I was at a reception, but it's the same every year. I heard Portugal's song sucked big time.

Thing is, that's how it's worked all these years, so if you're still entering the competition, then you should just suck it up and deal. The commentator droned on for the entire competition about the tactical voting, and it's like, you've been at it for the last 3 hours, and in fact for the last 57 years......

Serbia. They were pretty good. Second was Ukraine, I think, they were... special and entertaining.......

I was entertained by last year's Lordi, in fact I voted for them!

I didn't watch it last year, but I do have Lordi's "Wake the Snake" on mp3...
