Suddenly, even the most batshit insane people in fandom don't seem so batshit insane anymore.
(In short, a 30-year-old mainland Chinese woman has been obsessed with Andy Lau for 13 years and her parents feed that obsession by selling all their possessions and their house - they even contemplated selling their kidneys - and eventually borrowing money to go to HK to meet the man. When they realised they couldn't meet him right away, they went to the central governmental offices to beg for help, and were eventually referred back to the fan club. When the daughter went to a fans function but didn't get to talk to her idol at length, her father killed himself in protest.)
