As a "racial minority" myself, I can't decide if what's happening on Celeb BB is actually "racism" or not. >_> When you dislike someone, everything they say, do, and are, becomes wrong. If Shilpa'd been Scottish they'd make fun of her Scottish accent and say she deep fries all her food and refer to her as "the Scot". A lot of people say things like that, but do the Scottish call us on it? People mimic the way George Bush speaks and make fun of him, is that discrimination enough to be called upon? Hmmmm. Food for thought.

I haven't been able to order the posters in time, sorry. But I'll print A3 of the stuff anyway, because I can!

Eh, I failed at telling you what I wanted for the posters anyway. I'll get my brain back at some stage. :\

The main thing I picked up on from that article was the little throwaway comment at the end about Pattern Recognition. Hee! ...but one of these days I really should read those books.

Discrimination is a tricky subject in general, heh. I honestly have no clue what's going on in BB though. XD;;

I watch a little bit every now and then. But now most of the good people are gone and there's nothing to see. BB melts the brain and I hate it. Celeb BB is slightly different, but not much better.

I really don't know how detailed they're going to go with the TV series... the story is so huge!

Can't wait to see what the cast looks like.

it'll probably be like Battlestar galactica where to afford effects they've got a lot of canadians who will work for soup but get better quickly, with two character actors who are really good but about thirty years past their prime.
I wanna see Ned Stark and Jaime and wonder if Renly is as gay as he seems to read.

I have to send a book to Liz which I've been promising for weeks, I can pop it in the same parcel, save you the bother of finding it.
I'll probably post it Saturday, if you can get it off her XP because it is really good.

It is. Although, this sort of debate is kind of good in a way, because a lot of people don't realise this type of thing happens to a lot of people everyday, but now they see it on telly and can't pretend not to know anymore.

not quite so basic - mostly its nasty bitchiness and bullying/ ganging up on someone as often happens when women are put together. But some of the comments are iffy "the indian was jaggin my head" (or something)and "is it india where they eat with their hands" "they must undercook their food in india thats why they're all so thin". There's differences of opinions but I think the nastiness has crossed a line racist or not. frankly Shipla is a lot bigger person than I would be in her position.

Not that I watch the rubbish but well its been all over the news for the last couple of days. Gordon Brown has been getting grief on his trip to India since she's a major star.

See comment above. I still maintain this seems a lot more vicious than they should be allowing. Will be interesting to see how long C4 holds out considering the pressure the govt is starting to feel.

It does happen every day - it's commonplace behaviour in schools, the workplace etc and not just linked to race although that's the super sensitive subject these days. Reality tv just got a little bit too real.
