I actually find long, reasoned discussions about fandoms and pairings rather silly. I also confess to always wanting to laugh at "ship manifestoes" and "fandom essays". I have my reasons (which are too long for me to be bothered to type and I don't want to start a long discussion on it, really) but on the other hand, given the amount of time, energy and money we devote to it, there is nothing wrong with these things and so I wonder what my problem with it really is. XD; Probably it's because the way people approach it, like it's their lives' work or something, and the same discussions are done over and over, every couple of months, and there's never anything new. They are always so keen on proving things, too. I mean, what's there to prove?

*waves* I ship ZukaFuji, D1, SanaYuki, YamaYuki. I don't need to defend my choices and I don't need to tell you my ships are better or fairer or more proven than yours (because they probably aren't). I just like them together. I embarrass my fellow shippers. :D Shoot me. :D

Went out and got food. Was going to bake cake, but realised it's cheaper and simpler to just buy cake. XD; Especially because there is nobody to share cake with.

Really want to go clothes shopping, suddenly. But that involves having to get on the Tube. Why can't the shops be near home?

........I suppose I'll have some cake, and then go out.

[edit] I once wrote YamatoKirihara somewhere in a comment. I can't find it anymore. T______T Woe.

I know what you mean, everything time I see one of those essays I start rolling my eyes. Like you said, what is there to PROVE? Nothing is so call "canon" or is "better" anyways since they are all our imagination...xD

but yeah, again like you said, I like my pairing because I just like them together...haha

Yeah, it's like... "omg I love my husband and here it why! *list of reasons*"

That's perfectly fine. But when it starts becoming... "omg I love my husband and he's better than yours!"... then I go "what the shit you guys need more things to do with your time". Maybe your hubby is better than the other person's and maybe her hubby is a murderer, but she loves her husband, not yours, and you love your own husband, not other people's. Everybody has their reasons, just deal with it.

I find ship manifestos amusing. I can't imagine them ever swaying someone to like a pairing they didn't like. They seem to exist mostly to make people who like a pairing feel good about it. I already feel good about the pairings I ship. ^_^

For some reason, all I can think of is the fact that 'manifestoes' is a very funny word. Toes! Like a ship smugly wriggling its toes at you!

I wrote a ship manifesto for YanaKiri once, but it was mostly because it was the shiny new thing in fandom, and [livejournal.com profile] gekidasa nagged me. In fact, there are a lot of things I've done in fandom because [livejournal.com profile] gekidasa nagged me. :D

I enjoy reading the ship manifestos (not so much fandom essays, because for me, a ship manifesto is at least all about loving on the pairing, and a fandom essay is...pretentious) but if I'm going to spend hours typing in front of the computer, I'd rather be writing pr0n.

Hello! I ship ShishiAto, YanaKiri, ChitoKura, KenZai, and SanaYuki when Yukimura isn't portrayed like a classic tragic romantic heroine with consumption. :D

I'm always flattered when people mention my writing in their manifesto, but the idea of a manifesto just... isn't my thing. Like you said, essays are pretentious (or at least the ones I've read are). Especially when the author says "[her idea of something] is how it should be written and everything else is just plain wrong."

Not very much into the Nationals school yet. I like Yanagi and Kiri being close but not necessary a pair together. XD And Yukimura is evil, not a tragic hero. XDDDDD

And yes, pr0n is so much better.

I don't get mentioned in manifestos because I tend to write offbeat pairings. I am flattered when it happens, though.

Especially when the author says "[her idea of something] is how it should be written and everything else is just plain wrong."

Yeah, that's pretty much calculated to turn me off and probably would make me deliberately either drop the pairing or write it the complete opposite of the so-called "right" way.

I wrote a ship manifesto once. I'm very embarrased that it exists. :D

XD YAY ftw. They're so cute... XD I'm still hoping that more people would write AtoYukiAto XD I love that pairing to death. *guilty pleasure* u______u and I like SanaYuki a lot better when Yuki isn't a girl. :*(

I did read a ship manifesto for SanaYuki by Pengie. XD It was pretty amusing because it wasn't that serious.

I like ship manifestos. Manifestoes? FINGERS? ... Anyway. They're great for when you're just going omg I like this pairing, and a well-written one can point you to fics! Yay fics! ... YAY FICS? 8D?

My brain is so not working. XD Basically I'm trying to say that I like manifestos, but a [for example] ZukaFu manifesto is not going to make me like the pairing, no matter how good the fics are or how well-written the justification is. XD So uh. What was my point? I DONNO.

I am spamming you ;_; but you spam my flist anyway so this is PAYBACK. WAHAHHAA.

Aa. I don't know so much about manifestos, but... I like essays? But mostly for helping me make sense of a character/pairing for when I RP/fic them. 8D (Especially people like Niou and Yagyuu, who can just be go-damned confusing.)

But yeah, seriously. Given how many crack pairings I ship... xDDD I wonder why shippers need to prove things, sometime. Especially when they ship the major pairings. YOU GUYS HAVE (a lot of) FIC/ART ALREADY. xD

Of the essays I've read, most of them leave no room for imagination - it's the author telling you what her interpretation is. I think it's risky to use those as a basis for ficcing/RPing... personally I think it's best to base your chars solely off your impression of the anime and manga.

Oh! I mean writing my own essays; to make sense of them for myself. xDDD Writing essays helps me organize my thoughts. xDDD; And if other people want to read it, then hey?

The whole idea of ship manifestos and fandom essays just makes me laugh.

And that YamaKiri is probably in my journal somewhere :D;
