moonrainty, please stop breaking my mind. They look so cute in maid-ish!dresses.

Time to clean up friends list (again). Because I post a lot of personal things (contact details, photos, work stuff) under friends lock, if I know someone doesn't login to LJ regularly, I worry that her LJ may get hacked and taken over without the person even realising for weeks and weeks, and then all my personal details get leaked out that way. Because of that, I have a fear about keeping inactive people friended. I wonder if it's just me?

(Of course, there are people like lelola only posts once every 53 weeks (:P), but I know Pan uses her account to look at communities and friends pages, so that's different.)

About uploads, I found this list (some info is outdated tho) and have tried badongo.com which allows large files with unlimited downloads. It seems okay except that if your file is >100MB, they'll split it into 100MB chunks, so you will have to download all the chunks and a programme from them that puts the chunks back together. While splitting it is a good idea for some, having to download their software is a bit annoying, really. I shall continue my search for a good file host, until I get my act together and buy some webhosting.

Oh, webhosting! Those who have websites and use it to host files for friends - which company did you sign up with, what bandwidth are you using, how much does it cost you and would you recommend it? Please help? 8D? **

** [edit] Just done a whois search, it seems like some friends are using godaddy.com, I might just follow everyone 8D now, I need a domain name. I wonder if tezukas-balls or tezuke has been taken yet...

Godaddy is the best registrar. I host with surpasshosting.com, but I hear a lot of others host with dreamhost. Ask Nori for dreamhost details. ^_^

i would've recced dreamhost unreservedly up until recently, but they've been sending me warning notices containing some of my larger and err less blamelessly legal files. XD;; they don't seem to bother with deletion unless the names are really obvious and there are a lot of people downloading, though, and give plenty of breather time for you to disguise the files, so i'm willing to stick with them and take the risk.

they do provide more disk space and bandwidth than anyone can reasonably use, and i've rarely had trouble uploading or downloading from the site.

poke me if you decide to go for it, and i'll send a discount code? should shave all but $20 from your first year, if you go with the cheapest plan.

I registered all my domains with godaddy, but I seriously don't recommend their hosting plans. I hear nothing but complains from people hosted there.

My hosting company is surpasshosting.com (like Hana's) and I love them, been there for four years. They're awesome with customer service and have better cost/benefit plans than most other popular hosts (including dreamhost, which I have a personal gripe with sincefor the little time I was signed with them, they treated me like shit).

If you get to check surpass' plans, I'm signed for the oc5 one and, while I don't do a huuuuge lot of file distro'ing, I still run three domains on it with lots of space and bandwitdh to spare. Wouldn't recommend getting a bigger plan than that unless you plan to use gazillions of bandwidth.

I don't think they're what you're looking for, but I use OneStop. They're a tad on the expensive side, but they let me run my massive bandwidth-eating website, so I can't complain. ^^;

My domains are registered with GoDaddy, hosting is through Dreamhost. Everyone else's already talked about that, but... uh. Dreamhost! They're not too bad. I've been with them for a while, and they've been getting a lot of server attacks lately, but they're pretty prompt about fixing them most of the time.

... just. Don't go with Netrillium, whatever you do. Unless they've stopped sucking in the past two years. :P
