Dec. 23rd, 2005 10:28 amAre LJ comment emails arriving slowly and in a weird order for anyone else, or is it just me?
I'm trying so hard to push out the next 2 chapters of [The City] before Christmas. But it looks like I won't make it. =_= Ch.22 is just a small chapter on Niou's side of things, more like a lead-on to ch.23. And then on ch.24 I'll go back to Sengoku's side of things and work on the aftermath of the event in ch.21... trying really hard not to jump around to much and to try to link events together better now. When I was reading A Feast For Crows, I felt that the story has gotten so large, and the author has used so many different povs, that things were becoming fragmented and by the time I got back to a certain character, I wondered what was happening to him the last time he had a pov chapter.
And to think A Feast for Crows only covers half the povs, and the next book will have the other half (eg Jon Snow, Bran, Tyrion...)
It's one of the two things GRRM fell short with his writing, I think. Fragmentation. The other is that since book 3, he seemed to have fallen in love with using italics to include inner thoughts. He used it so much and even on unimportant things, and for me that's always a mark of a weak writer, or someone who's so obsessed with his creation he's lost the bigger picture. But GRRM is anything but weak... >_> but anyway.
Determined not to let my fic fragment too much >:E!
