Homosexuality in China

pezI've thrown my copy of Metro away after finished reading it this morning, but there was brief item on it which I can't find on BBC News. It talked about a university in Shanghai now offering a course that looks into homosexuality, and they are hoping this will make people have better understanding of it. Several hundred people have applied for the 100 spaces.
For a country that had classified homosexuality as a mental illness until 4 years ago, doesn't this sound like a giant leap forward?
I should go pick up another copy of the paper later and look at the details.
