pezI'm writing chapter 12 of [The City] now. Having just gone back to read all that I've done for this story... I'm impressed with myself XDDDDD I'm actually very happy with the characterisation, the background as well as the pace. *gives self a pet on the back* It's taken a bit longer than I expected to get to the current point in the story, probably 2 chapters longer than expected, but all is good.
This chapter though... I've reached a point where I'm asking myself "Should I write about Yagyuu now?" The original plan is to keep it back for at least 3 more chapters. But it's so exciting and I just can't wait to write it. I get like this every now and then, and I know it's usually better to just stick to original plan, but... wah, can't I write it yet?!?!
Once a friend suggested to me, why don't I write that part first, so that it's off my chest? But... since the story is, to use a fancy word, dynamic, doing that just won't work. By dynamic I mean I have a pretty good idea what's going to happen and when, but there is a possiblity it'll change as I write it; it's not set in stone. I build the background as I go along, and to write something ahead will mean I lose the background I may create in the few chapters I've skipped (and therefore the characterisation too), and that takes the shine off the writing. And who knows, something may change when I write those few chapters I've skipped then, and I'll need to rework everything again. Also, most importantly, it's this anticipation of being able to write a particular scene that helps me write the rest of the story.
Guess I should just do the usual: stick to the original plan, and don't write things ahead of time. *nod*
