I couldn't find my wallet when I left home this morning >_< I don't remember leaving it anywhere, but it wasn't in the bag I used yesterday, nor the coat pockets. It wasn't on (or under) the bed, the desk, or the floor. I quickly checked my accounts using internet banking, and no money has gone, so it couldn't have been stolen I guess. Must still be somewhere inside the house.

And I'm in comp lab now waiting for my group mates to come prepare the presentation together. Just sitting here idly, reading my friends' LJ's, and suddenly realise that there's no earring in my ear!!! O_o" How long has it been since I dropped it? This is baaad news, coz by the time I get home to put something in, it'll most probably be closed up, that stupid hole.

Reading The Two Towers now. The books aren't as bad as I thought, but the characters are really... flat. I guess characterisation isn't the main thing in the books.

But can someone please tell me, why do people refer to the author as J.R.R. Tolkien? They don't know how to spell his first name? X_x" Or are all the 3 initial his first name (instead of first and middle names), so it's too long to say or write?

[edit: found my wallet XD]

Because that's the name he published under, including for his academic works (I had to read some of them at college).

So he published all his works using his initials? Is that a common thing to do in the past? ^^" (I have no idea about these things)

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He published under JRR Tolkien (I think his father might have been a John Tolkien too, but I can't remember off the top of my head). The books do have very flat characterisation, apart from Frodo and Gollum, because they're the 'important' characters. Still, if you ever have the stomach for it, reading the Silmarillion makes you realise that it never was about the characters anyway. It's like setting out to write the complete history of the world, but only having enough time during you life to get one war published.

Yes!!! That's the feeling I'm starting to get as well, and no doubt the feeling will get stronger as I read further ^^" Gollum hasn't made a proper appearance yet, coz I only got to the beginning of the Rohan bit. Frodo and Sam are a bit more alive than others. And I'm really pissed off that in Lothlorien it's said that Legolas often brings Gimli somewhere, but they don't tell you what they do. And apparently after that, they've became fast friends. Arrrrrgggghhh what the hell happened??? I want to know~~~~~ >_

the two of them do get very close very quickly ^_^ They're the closest to canon slash pairing, other than Merry/Pippin. Aragorn/Legolas is pretty much films only in comparison.

I keep meaning to find and read all of the 'Unifinshed Tales'. They're more written by CHristopher Tolkien than JRR, apparently, but again more background info.

*has now gone past the part where they say they'll visit the caves of Helm's Deep and Mirkwood together* Gimli and Legolas. Canon pairing!!! XD

I think I can put you at ease concerning earring holes. They don't close that quickly unless they're fairly new ( two or three day new ). I've not had earrings in some of my piercings for years and the holes are still there. ^_^

=D I just got home and put another earring in, and the hole's still there =D =D =D Thanks! Last time the other hole nearly closed completely when I went without an earring for a day... but I guess that's because it was infected ^^"

That was my whole problem with the Tolkein books. In all honesty, his writing is....so...dry, I suppose? Not my cup of tea. Sit me down with a good Weiss/Hickman novel or some R.A. Salvatore, and I'm a happy camper. But then, I'm a dweeb too. ^_^

Oh and I have to finally comment...that damned icon of yours cracks me up XD

*grin* Or maybe some good fanfiction. That'll make me very, very happy =D

The books aren't bad, in terms of the adventure... a lot of imagination and everything. But somehow I think if I didn't see the films, I wouldn't have been able to imagine what, say, Merry and Pippin, or Aragorn looked like, or how they'd act...

*uses that icon again* hehehehehe

I totally agree on the imagery thing. I had a hard time envisioning things when I tried to read the books. Luuuurve the movies, though. ^_^

*pets Schuld* ^_^ waiii!
