Although I don't like kids, this is not the way to treat them. I read this article on Metro this morning and it showed the photos of the men and grrrrrrr it made me want to tear the page apart.

Makes me wonder though. Why is it that all the paedophile or "priest abuses child" cases I've ever heard involved boys? Rarely do I ever read that the victim is a girl. I can't imagine this being just because the girls didn't want to come forward...... so why????

i don't get why they recieved such short sentences! should be jailed much longer.
i did hear in the past about lil girls abused by pedophiles... as for the priests cases, its mostly boys learning to become priests.. there was a whole big deal about it not long ago... catholics are so against homosexuality yet their high priests abuse little boys... feh, talk about hypocracy... at least homosexuals don't harass little boys.

Catholics don't have "high priests", first of all. And the only reason there are so many clergy molestation cases is because the lifestyle -- one where you are put in trusted close contact with the children and youth of your parish -- is convenient for some individuals who are already predisposed to be child molesters. The same thing happens with teachers, lifeguards, and pediatric nurses, but *those* careers don't have a stigma attached to them. Being a priest does not make you a pervert. Homosexuals, heterosexuals, priests, laypeople, there's bad apples in every barrel. There's no "hypocraSy" involved. Despite the Vatican's official stance most Catholics are accepting of, or at least tolerant of, homosexuality. I was born and raised Catholic, still go to church every Sunday, and I've been bisexual since I hit puberty. The gross generalizations really need to stop.

whatever, i'm not christian, and am anti-religion in general for my own reasons. i was referring to a net of pedophiles uncovered in a church in Austria a couple of months ago, that involved over 100 high priests or whatever (sorry don't know christians terms).. i've seen stuff like that in other religions too, tho in lesser numbers. actually, i think the organized religions are hypocritic not just about sexuality.

I think she probably meant bishops... since some of them in the US were involved or knew and helped covering up such affairs.

But I agree with you for the rest of your comments. One of the problem of the Catholic priests, of course, is that they are required to be chaste for the rest of their lives... About that, I wish we were more like the protestant priests who are allowed to be married and thus understand family problems and matrimonial problems much better when they try to advise their parishoners.

I agree...and enforced chastity for a long period of time *can* cause some men to become confused and conflicted over sexuality and sexual desires. I think that's going to be one of the next big reforms after John Paul II is gone...we can hope, at least. That, or an American Catholic Church is going to appear.
