Can anyone direct me to an idiot's guide to making video on DVD discs into .avi files? A really simply guide that tells me what softwares to use, which buttons to click etc? Please help? Thanks :)

AutoGK comes with everything you need. Here's a tutorial.

Except (apparently) for the actual ripping of the dvd files on to your computer (which you'd want to do first because it will save a lot of wear and tear on your dvd drive). AutoGK (and me) both use dvddecrypter for this. It's really easy to use and includes a code cracker so you can rip Region 1 and Region 2 dvds.

I currently use dvd2x to actually convert the file to .avi format.

I've used this to rip an episode of KS directly into divx encoded avi file. I've yet to find a crack working for this though to avoid the pricetag involved.
