Fast Drop

So the post office has this nifty service called Fast Drop. You pay for postage at home, print and stick it to your item, then you drop it at a special counter at the post office so that you don't have to queue. The difference between this and the regular service is that they will send me and my recipient notification of posting, which also serves as proof of postage. Really good for people running online businesses.

Except, post office branches that have Fast Drop counters? Not nearly enough of them. Unfortunately although the one in town centre does it, that's not the one I usually send things from. I mail stuff from the branch near work.

Sigh.

Unrelatedly, my work takes me to the most glamorous places.

As I stood there, a woman pushing a pram was having a screaming match with the man walking with her. It felt like I walked into Eastenders.

SE London is so different from SW sometimes it feels like the transition from one US state to another.

Also unrelated: I want to wear tweed tomorrow.

Our post office has one counter. Also used for the sale of knitting wool and scented candles.

(Also, the postie has been known to leave parcels in the wheelie bin!)

Is it one of those sub-post offices?

(Oh dear.)

I don't think so. It's just multifunctional and very small!

Urrrg, southampton has no fast drop service. I wish I had something that cool. If I need proof of postage I have to wait in the ass long queue and it's not even worth doing it in advance online if I have to do that. I'll just print the names, stick them on it and take up more of the precious post office's time.

SO much hate for them.

*checks* Looks like your nearest branch is 5 miles away. =/ Unless you only send things once or twice a week and don't mind driving/taking a bus, I guess. I try to mail the next day so I do it at lunch time near work, and that branch hasn't got Fast Drop either. Usually it has 4 out of 10 counters open and on a bad day, 30+ people queuing...

Haha, the nearest one is in Romsey. It would take me longer to get there than to wait in any queue.

This is why I actually make most of my packages post box size and just send them through that. There's less insurance on my side, but I offer a replacement policy for lost items anyway so my customer service doesn't suffer because of it. The only pain in the ass thing is that I can't make claims on lost packages because of that.

Costume commission stuff always gets tracking so that has to be done over the counter anyway, so that's just for Khaos Komix stock.

Can't find it on the RM site but other people say the service costs 25p per item, doesn't seem all that economical.

One day, I hope to have enough business to justify a business collection: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?mediaId=51400697&catId=4800036

mmmmm, business collection would be so sweet. Maybe one day when I have to send a fuck tonne of T-shirts out or something. Good to know they have single collection for things!

I'd have to send many, many wigs...

Chances are slim but if you can find other businesses very near you, Royal Mail does allow the collection to be shared between businesses as long as it's one collection point only, then you can split the cost.

Post office lines are the most boring lines you can possibly wait in.
