  1. Passing on the information: LJ QUIETLY asks you to vote in a poll regarding the latest changes that allows locked posts to appear in potentially public places.

You'd think they'd at least create their own poll and not rely on one posted at a community that's not specifically targeted at LJ usage. (And they really need a poll to decide on what to do next...?)

Then again, you'd think that after all the mistakes they've made in the past, they'd remember to test something extensively before implementing it, and do a comprehensive poll before, not after, a feature is implemented.

Mind you, I think privacy on the internet is mostly an illusion. But there's no need to make it easier to shatter that illusion.

  2. After a lot of persuasion, my mum has agreed not to fly over for my nephew's birthday. Phew.

  3. I have three big packages with UK customs. Apparently it can take a day or a month to get them to clear it, depending on how busy they are, if it wasn't sent with expensive priority "next-day" postage. Well at least it's not Christmas, hope it won't take too long.

  4. Someone has brought her children to work. DX *puts on headphones*

Privacy on the Internet is completely an illusion! Even those who put time and effort into layers of friends filtering can have it all blown apart if they then fall out with someone. It's a lot of trust to put in someone you might never have met.

Don't you want your mum to come over? My dad's been turning up for Dylo's birthdays and it's the most I've seen him for years.

Very true.

It's not that I don't want her to come over, it's that she isn't healthy enough to fly long haul. Her heart's not very good at the moment and she's had very high sustained heart rate a couple of times, now she's got to go to hospital regularly for checks. Last time she flew here (just a couple of months ago), she became tired for days. We don't want her to go through the risk of a heart attack or a stroke or whatever, especially when her medical records are all in HK and not easily accessible over here. =/

I didn't realise employers checked our credit records until recently. Was so glad I'd sorted my finances out even if I don't have a nice shiny LinkedIn profle!

That's a shame. I suppose at least these days there's skype etc.

You would think that the whole point of locking posts is to lock posts and not to share them in the public, but it doesn't seem that LJ understands the adjective "locked" like the rest of the world ...

Sometimes I wonder if the LJ staff understands anything at all. Words such as "testing", "research" and "consult" are obviously missing from their dictionary!
