As the brothers Weather Condition and Driving Condition continue with their treachery, Temperature still refuses to admit to its ukeness and keeps struggling to get above Freezing, although Freezing is totally topping it in this Freezing/Temperature relationship.

It can always be worse, but London and Englad are generally ill prepared for temperatures below freezing. We Scandinavians bitch and moan about the snow and cold and whatever, every winter, but at least we're prepared with proper insulation, proper clothes, snow/winter tires for the cars (mandatory!) and so on. The English don't know insulation from Adam. :P

I wish our Polish society was at least half as disciplined as societies of other countries. We should be prepared for winter and in theory we are. But practice is so far from the theory: beginning with people forgetting about changing their tires, ending with road services. There is that joke every winter in Poland, you can be sure one of the news headings will be something like: "winter surprised the road services... again!" :)

But yeah, what solaas said is true. Up in Scotland they're slightly better prepared, but down here in southern parts of UK, we aren't used to this weather at all so everything just falls apart when it suddenly gets this cold.

Dude, that's Georgia. Exactly. Here, at the mention of sprinkles of snow, people go buy extra emergency food supplies at the store and close down businesses and schools and crap XD we are so fail when it comes to winter.

Bah, over here (Finland) winter somehow always manages to surprise quite a few drivers, although it's a statistical fact that winter DOES reach us every damn year. *headdesk* Mind you, this mainly applies to those wimps who live in Southern Finland and keep imagining that they're somewhere far more south in Europe...

Same here. Winter surprises everyone in mid-south Norway. Up north, where I grew up, people are less shocked at this yearly occurrence.

Acutally, it's the urban lot who flail the most. Seems like people catch the dumb when they move to the cities. The rural lot, even in the south, don't make a fuss over snow and winter. XD;

Exactly! I agree with your observation of them catching the dumb... it's as if they somehow imagine that the laws of nature and universe and everything miraculously ceased to exist after you move to areas with taller buildings and paved streets.

Ahaha yes. It was -23 or so here yesterday morning and admittedly we held off on leaving the house until it'd reached a, uh, balmy -16, but it was perfectly warm in here and nothing stopped working and all that. I love properly insulated houses. It's amazing how -20 weather can feel so much more manageable than -3 in the UK, with the difference in provision for this stuff that comes with a colder climate. (I refer to 1. being able to walk to the shops without sliding every second step; 2. having some confidence that if one needs a bus it will turn up; and 3. still having thin summer duvets on the beds and being warm enough, wow.)
