Plans, plans
Aug. 24th, 2009 10:45 amNational Express is doing rail works on the bank holiday weekend. What kind of bastards are they? (Yes, yes I know the reasoning behind it, but still! I really have no love for this TOC.)
This week I really want to do something about the garden. It's got so bad a gardener needs to be hired. Wonder how much that'd cost me.
Urgh, I've just been given a really complicated job to do. What's all this project management business? As a supply-chain member? Do you have to find the deepest end to throw me in?
Sewing lesson of the week: avoid metallic threads and fabrics at all costs. If I'd chosen grey pleather instead it'd have looked 500 times better, which will make it far more rewearable. Gah, dammit. I'm extremely pissed off. Maybe I'll go over it with pleather later, even if it means the stitches will go to the lining layer.
dystopiarcadia is going to the Cosplay Ball with me. *_* Apparently we'll be ballroom!Emma and ballroom!Dave... well, when I stand next to her I'll become ballroom!MiniDave. XD So, I need your opinion. Which is better?
1. Dave in white tailcoat, with green and red lining (Athlum colours). Tailcoat still has sword pattern on the back and is sleeveless so that he still gets to wear armwarmers (or nice white gloves, but that'd be too gay even for him) plus those black straps on his right arm. Nice shirt (sleeveless of course), maybe cravat and sash, white trousers, white shoes... not sure why, I just don't see Dave in black. The downside of this is it'll be hell to make since I can't find white tailcoats to buy anywhere to modify. I don't know how to make the collar AT ALL.
or
2. Dave in his usual coat, but nice sleeveless shirt underneath, cravat, sash, armwarmers, smart trousers, white shoes. It'll be way cheaper to pull together, more recognisable and far easier. Maybe it means I'll get time to make a Torgal-plush. ∑:| I think, since I don't really LOOK like Dave, maybe recognisable-ness of outfit would help. But this is a less exciting option I guess.
Aaaand I don't know what Syl will do with ballroom!Emma. But she's very artistic so I'm sure she'll come up with something really nice. And this time I'll be using the tanning spray. XD And getting magnetic earstuds that actually STAY there rather than disappear into the wilderness within a minute.

Date: 2009-08-24 10:02 am (UTC)Also, I mailed your p...doujinshi just now. Two separate envelopes, because envelopes were all I could find. I've stuffed the booklets into plastic wrapping (basically canniballising the wrapping on the djs I bought for myself at K-books), so hopefully they'll be okay. There's a couple of things for Liz in one of the packets, you'll know when you see them. :)

Date: 2009-08-24 10:25 am (UTC)YAY ♥;;;;;;;;;;;; (Did you have to declare item value for each package, and how much did you declare? Just wondering. It might end up having customs implications...)

Date: 2009-08-24 12:54 pm (UTC)(Neither option mentions the choker, which I sort of think of as being pretty integral to Dave's outfit. Maybe you could make a choker-with-cravat thing in outfit 2?)

Date: 2009-08-24 01:10 pm (UTC)(also, it occurs to me that a version of the eyepatch might make outfit 1 more recognisably Dave. Can you make a formal eyepatch?)

Date: 2009-08-24 01:17 pm (UTC)Or I could bring the Gae Bolg. Though somehow that might impede the dancing...For Option 1, now I realised I could just buy a pattern and not put the sleeves on, that would help me with the collar problem. So far I've never used bought patterns before, just sort of measured myself and made patterns out of newspaper, so I totally forgot about the proper, buyable option!
Any chance I can lure you into coming as Rush? XD

Date: 2009-08-24 01:46 pm (UTC)Oooh, patterns are good--wait, you don't use patterns at all? I fear your costuming skills even more now.
Ha. I've never cosplayed before, and that would be a terrifying place to begin ...besides, I think the world can happily live without seeing me dressed as the world's shortest, plumpest Rush. Sorry! :)

Date: 2009-08-24 02:17 pm (UTC)Well, I've never been taught how to make clothes, so I just looked at the clothes I had, measured them (and myself) and cut out pieces accordingly! It's alright for tops and jackets, especially for male characters since you don't need to leave much chest allowance, therefore everything can be pretty 2D. None of the cosplays I've done required special trousers, which is lucky, because trousers are much harder to make I think.
I'm 5'4" and make a pretty short Dave. Doesn't help that his chaps have the ability to make people's legs look even shorter! If you're short and cute I can carry you around and squee happily!
Anyway. Yeah. Cosplay is fun! Don't worry about size, people of all shapes do cosplay, you can tell just by looking at con photos! You should try it sometime. 8D

Date: 2009-08-24 05:26 pm (UTC)Also, curse you and your tempting ways. I just spent my journey home vaguely pondering how exactly one would make a formal version of Rush's clothes anyway. Aie.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-24 06:13 pm (UTC)It doesn't have to be a formal version! If I get too lazy I'd just go as "normal" Dave, so... *TEMPTS SOME MORE*
(btw there are people going as Pokemon and TTGL characters, so I think it's a case of make it as formal or informal as you like!)

Date: 2009-08-25 03:47 pm (UTC)I dunno if some friends of yours would have time to do it for the cosplay ball.
I just know that there is a new Rush cosplay here (http://renchee.deviantart.com/art/My-Rush-coslay-134466731).
