SO: TLH impression m of n
Jun. 15th, 2009 12:31 amSince I've edited it (for a given value of editing; I suck at catching my own mistakes), [Siege/Surrender] ch.11 is here.
And now, for more Star Ocean thoughts, without huge spoilers:
- They completely overloaded it with cutscenes. As much as I love cutscenes, if all they do is cover the same topic over and over again, it's not interesting. Please stop. If I hear one more time about how Reimi feels about her power...
- Needlessly long dialogues. Like the cult back in Roak. The first time you see the cult leader, and the second/last time. And the boss at Miga Insect Warren. Yammered on and on and on and on and on and... right, so who the heck directed this game? They fail.
- Once again, too much repeating old jokes. How many times have I seen Meracle talking about chicken and food in general already?!
- I think I know what happened to a certain character. It's so obvious. orz Unless SE/Tri-ace are so dumb they didn't use something they themselves mentioned earlier in the game. But then there is no element of surprise anymore. Mergh.
- Negative IQ megane girl (with annoying voice). Cat girl (with low IQ and likes to say meow). Big boobs woman (they bounce gracefully). Loli (who is 15 but looks and behaves like 5 and ends every single sentence with 'kay? which makes you want to stab things after a while). Wow, the game makers got all their bases covered, huh. CAN'T I GET MORE BLOKES IN THIS GAME?! Sure. They giveth me another one, but they taketh one away at the same time. WHY.
- Most of the voice acting is good, but a few (Sarah, Meracle, Welch) are positively grating. Such a shame.
........regardless of the above, I'm enjoying the game in general. On disc 3 now, which is the final disc. I'm glad, because I don't think I could take another disc. This isn't Lost Odyssey, which is well-directed enough to carry itself for 4 discs.
Oh and also:
- Bacchus has Torgal's voice and looks like Buzz Lightyear. I'll never get over this.
- Arumat is into j-rock, bordering on visual-k.
- For some reason, I was hoping Crowe to be someone absolutely loltastic. But that was not to be. :(
Hm. I haven't done anything constructive this weekend. Guess I'll make it up during the week.
I think there needs to be Emma Honeywell fic. Hopefully featuring Torgal as well. You know, I'm not the only one who thinks they make a fantastic couple (despite the race thing). There are Japanese fansites who also adore this combination. Although, yeah, I suppose anything goes in Japanese fandom...

There's in-game, mixed-species couples (at least one, rather), so Emma/Torgal is completely doable (and he has 4 arms and a cat tongue... I think I just killed my own brain).

My mind's gone blank - which? Or do you mean David/Rush, because they can be called mixed species couple if you really think about it.......

Date: 2009-06-15 12:53 pm (UTC)I remember kind of fangirling at it because the game was actually promoting inter-species relationships between two species that probably have quite a high genetic differential (ok, so I was science-geeking-out).
