Back in the old days, I never remember seeing summaries, so I don't feel the lack if they're not there. (And in my current fandom, a summary usually indicates a fic you want to avoid. Especially when it's Ohno meets 'Nino' in the streets. They have a 'conversation' and 'bond' somehow. XD LOL. Or Summary: After Officer Ryo's failure to capture Prostitute Tegoshi, Chief Yamashita goes to the strip club where Tegoshi works to do the job on his own. He is met with a problem - Tegoshi himself. What will happen when Ryo sniffs out his Cheif's whereabouts? I didn't find a vampire fic quickly though, which is a shame...)

Then again, if I see something like that in PoT I'd avoid it too. *nod* I usually follow writers rather than summaries, but sometimes a summary does catch my eye and I end up finding a shiny new writer who's really good...

Lol it's not a good advert, is it? XD I usually click on anything that has a pairing I'm interested in, which doesn't even happen every day, lol, so I take what I can get. And sometimes a good one-line summary catches my eye. Like "Arashi as Mr Men". That was an unexpected classic! XD

I only pay attention to summaries if it's a new name. If it's a writer, I might skim through a summary, but I don't miss it if it's not there.

Same. Who wrote it is far more important to me as well. But sometimes I do discover good authors because a summary caught by eye...

I like overall summaries because sometimes a title and author name isn't enough to tell me if it's a story I might want to read. Having limited time for reading means I usually go for stories that have an interesting summary. I don't need them once I've started reading, though.

I especially like summaries for stories in archives. It makes it a lot easier to identify stories I've already read (since I do most of my reading in a fandom that's 10+ years old). My memory for titles isn't as good as it used to be.

I wrote 'overall summary'. I like to know in general what it's about, but details aren't important. I fucking hate writing summaries. :(

I fall in line with the the last three who commented above me; I like to see an overall summary, but prefer not to be spoiled by chapter summaries. I, too, tend to use the summary to judge readability... not just spelling and grammar, but the content (i.e. the whole, "This sux but plz read" type summary will definitely let me know that I don't want to read it).

"Chapter summary" always makes me think of some old books that have chapter summaries in the style of "Chapter XX, where character A meets an old friend and character B has an unpleasant surprise when YYY happens". I mean, what's the point of even reading the chapter then...

(A few words is enough of an overall summary, too. And I genuinely hate writing summaries myself, because I don't want to tell too much and trying to decide what's sufficient is so damn difficult. >_< )

I like at least a brief summary for the fic overall. Chapters, don't care. But it's sort of... mentally helpful for me. I like to have at least a rough idea what I'm picking up. Something to tease me? Something like that.

While on an educational and ambassadorial trip, David Nassau is suddenly attacked by the most dangerous enemy of all. As his own life and those he holds dear are threatened, old wounds are also reopened, but it seems like some would prefer to let them bleed rather than mend - the road to reconciliation is shadowed by fear, not of one's own pain, but of hurting those involved. If sacrifices were made willingly and without regret, surely it doesn't matter if they are kept secret forever... or does it?

Is that a bad summary? I don't know if that says enough about the fic. And is it too cheesy? (Fic is cheesy, but one would like to lure people into it unawares, you see...)

I like a summary, but could care less if you mean reposting it for every chapter when it's archived somewhere. Fic communities are different since that'll be what likely pulls in new readers. Chapter summaries are like mini spoilers. :|
