For those interested: The Iowa thinks yaoi and loli are madevilwrong case is going on trial on 2 December. I wonder if there's a way to keep myself updated on the proceedings...? *pokes around Iowa websites*

It's bad to let kids see nude bodies. Who cares if it's art? Everybody was born with clothes on! And beating people up, the way they do in lots of kiddy comics, is clearly better than nakedness!

Don't forget that in the US version of PoT manga, they edited out Akutsu's smoking but kept the parts where he served rocks at other kids using his tennis racket. BECAUSE CLEARLY BEATING PEOPLE UP IS GOOD AND SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED BUT TEENAGE SMOKING IS V. V. BAD.

OMG! I didn't hear about this before, but that trial is beyond horrible, aweful, stupid and superfluous.
I always used to joke about the fact, that if customs should ever take a closer look at the doujins that I buy, they'd probably arrest me...mind you, I said all that in jest and did never believe that would/could actually happen, but here I am proven wrong once again by the American jurisdiction. as a law student I know how silly and stupid some laws and trials are, but that is too much even for me and just...(O_O)

I have to bow in front of the American jurisdiction and its infinite stupidity and dimwittedness! if this poor guy should get convicted we can kiss goodbye all of our basic rights and say hello to "Big Brother" and "1984"...*shakes head*

but also: go Neil Gaiman! ^^

I love Gaiman for saying they should arrest him too if that's what they're going to do. XD

I've been following this and just shaking my head in disbelief at the whole thing. Neil Gaiman has been very visible throughout and I'm glad people are taking an interest. I feel like we're going backwards instead of going forward and I hope that something can be done about the obscenity laws that have ruined people's lives. For no good reason at all.

I found out when Gaiman first blogged about it in October. Been wondering when it'd go to court... the guy was arrested in 2006, his life must've been hell since then, and all that for owning some yaoi and loli stuff.

Hope they throw the case out!

But note nothing is called out on extreme graphic violence in these kinds of things. Violence is ok!

Murder, cannibalism, gore, etc. Sex is bad mmkay. :|

Blood and guts and everything INSIDE the body is ok. But you aren't allowed to look at a body from the OUTSIDE.

Which reminds me, here you can legally have sex from age 16, but not watch porn until 18. Does that means 16 year olds should blindfold themselves while doing it? XDDD

Well, if you're into that. ;3

This also reminds me of something I read while reading about Silent Hill. Originally they had monsters that appeared childlike in appearance. They were forced to change them. The ratings board would not approve the monsters until all childlike qualities were stripped from them. The exception was one that remained as a silhouette and couldn't actually do anything.

We're way too fucking crazy when it comes to children. It's disgusting.

Let's start an army. Armed with porn.

No one will ever defeat it.

1. Why do people think this is just the US?
2. The difficult arguments aren't so much about what children might see but about whether paedophilia is being "legitimised" via online distribution of images, artistic and otherwise. Difficult because there is some evidence to suggest this is the case.

The UK Government announced plans during the summer to extend the obscenity laws to include comics/cartoons (and for these purposes, child is defined as 18 and under).
