pezIt must've taken me around 20 attempts to finish the final song at Ouendan 2 Hakanai ni Ouen mode. I suck.
.....which is what I've been doing the past month or so, is very difficult. His mind jumps, quite literally. In a situation he can't change or walk away from, he changes himself to make himself feel better. An example... say, he doesn't like hot food. If he's in a situation where there is only hot food available, he'd decide that he actually likes hot food, so that he can still have a good time, or at least a not-so-shit time. While this makes sense to me, when written down it just seems like completely inconsistent characterisation. And hell, I'm not going to repeatedly explain the type of person he is within the story, just so that it sort of makes sense. Explaining, to me, feels like product-placement in TV shows. It's cheap, it's in-your-face, it's a turn-off.
Another thing is that I've been avoiding scenes in which Niou and Sanada are alone together. I haven't managed to establish his exact attitude towards Sanada yet - how much obedience is there (and how much of it is from Niou's heart and how much from the fact that he has to obey because Sanada is his oyabun) and how much general Niou-ness gets through? How much Niou-ness would Sanada tolerate? So far the only thing I've been able to tell is that Niou used to be harder to handle, and he and Sanada had rubbed each other up the wrong way very badly before. But they've both grown since then, Sanada has better control of his temper and knows Niou better, and Niou has generally matured. Also, I know that Sanada trusts Niou very, very much now. He could trust Niou with any task at all and know it would be done and done exceptionally well. But that's about all I know. It doesn't affect anything in the story, but things that I know/don't know affects how I feel about writing it, for some reason.
Oh, Niou. Sigh. He's messed up. He knows he's messed up, everyone tries to help him but he doesn't accept the help - it's not that he doesn't want to, but that he doesn't know how to.
I'm going to finish this, somehow. It probably won't be what people expect, since it's a story about Niou, who happens to be yakuza, rather than a story about a yakuza called Niou, if you know what I mean. But there we go. And this fic already has a title! It's a rare thing. XD So I'll finish it, somehow.
Haven't listened to Hirai Ken for a while. He really is rather pleasant to the ears.
