A whole load of rubbish
Aug. 28th, 2002 02:44 pmDid you know that the local council will only collect 3 large items of garbage (eg furniture, carpet) from you every month? And you need to book in advance, too. If you want to throw more, they'll charge you.
And did you know that even if you take it to the rubbish dump yourself, you must take it in a car, not a van, otherwise they'll think that it's commercial waste and charge you?
And, if you really did have that much to throw that it won't fit into a car, then you should ask your local council to send the rubbish dump authority a fax to prove that you're the local resident and you're only throwing away your own trash?
And if you've only just moved into the area (the most trash-producing activity), with no phone, no electricity bills and other things to prove you're the local resident, this process may take very long? Especially because it's the Brits who alway move at 0.1mph?
So, if you really want to throw things away quickly (so that you can actually move around in the house), you need to call companies that do that sort of stuff. And did you know that they charge 150 quid for a skip's load?
THIS COUNTRY IS FUCKING CRAZY
nb. We had to call a company to take the trash away... and then one of the neighbours liked our old furniture and washer/drier (which we wanted to sell although we don't know how), and offered to take all our rubbish for us in exchange for the washer/drier. I think I like my new neighbours already.

Rubbish... bleah desu
Think about the bad names I call the municipal-work guys and system here in Portugal... That's unsane arround there too :/
Here, if you want to throw away home-giants u must do it on thursdays before 8pm, calling the city hall before 3pm telling them u are doing it, and where you're doing it. They have the giants collector truck, running only on thursdays night, and they'll come pick it up. You don't have to pay anything and you can leave as many trash as you wish.
As for rubbish ('construction-works' rubbish) you have to ask for a container to put it. It'll be placed on the street, close to your door, and picked up 48hours later (the most). It's a free service as well, though you have to go pick the container for yourself. (It's not a metalic container, it's more like a huge resistent bag) In our case we asked for the container and the other day by morning the container wasn't there, they pick it up without saying anything --;
If you throw away rubbish, or home-giants in other than thursday days, you'll have to pay a large amount as fine. The problem is they usually don't care about it and you can see washing machines near the trashbins for weeks... --; No one really cares about it.
Not sure if these rules apply everywhere in the contry, but gess so, probably changing the collecting days or other small details...
But well, you're moving :D probably by now you are almost established in your new place :P and with nice neighbours ;PPP (hmm that could be used as a good story subject - Trash Captor Neighbour-ra) ;)
