STFU, LJ consumers
Mar. 19th, 2008 01:55 pmInterview with a Director of SUP who is looking after the blogging operations. Oh, Mr. Nosik, you're so manly and forceful you remind me of Kite. ♥
(Reinforcing the stereotypical view of the Russians. Anton Nosik iz doin it right.)
Though, to be serious, when I first heard of the strike I kinda just LOL-ed. Now... I might join. And I (finally) have a back-up account on IJ and am wondering how the hell anyone is going to take this forward.
[edit] An alternative translation that is also worth reading.

Date: 2008-03-19 02:46 pm (UTC)But, at the same time, every time someone does that or arrange a mass exodus or whatever, it means hitting LJ where it hurts - in the pocket - and I doubt they'd actually do what the users want because of that. They'd just use more aggressive methods to find the money. So we all lose.
So, I don't know.

Date: 2008-03-19 05:11 pm (UTC)I've read somewhere today that people who don't like it should just leave, like we'd stop buying from a particular shop if we don't like the service there. Yes, I could leave - everybody can - but most are being held hostage here because they've paid money* already and what LJ offers isn't a normal service like your water supply (it's just about you and the water), it's a platform for interaction (it's about you and the other users). And I have already made lots of interactions and it's all been saved here.
Once again, they need to hire a PR company, Sixapart didn't do it, and I doubt SUP will.
*one may say that paid time doesn't cost much, but if you come from say, Argentina, where you can happily live on $1000/month, then you might feel what you've paid to LJ is a larger amount than if you were an American.

Date: 2008-03-19 06:11 pm (UTC)It's really sad that they aren't dealing with their users' concerns seriously. I also want to be able to write or call and have my concerns taken seriously when I don't like something. As a customer I shouldn't just be ignored and scoffed at behind my back =/ Oh, LJ. So much fail.
As a student making not-so-much money at all, I do think that what I've paid to LJ is a pretty big amount. I have family members whose monthly income is around $40 USD. It's not unreasonable to expect LJ to respect users who pay money for its service, damnit T__T
