pezI only have 45 work emails after not being there for a week. The world must be coming to an end.
The status of the job at the Other Office makes me want to cry and pretend it doesn't exist.
My back was hurting so badly last night (travelling + suitcase + rucksack + moving furniture at home), but it's a lot better today. I was worried I'd done it some damage. But this morning I woke up and saw my rearranged flat, it's nice and spacious and it made me :D.
I don't like the water in London. My hair was never so puffy after washing when I was in HK.
I'm stuck in what time period to set it in.
D1 fic is a prequel to the yakuza fic I posted last month. I'm thinking it takes place about 5 years prior. In the yakuza fic I did mention use of mobile phones etc, but that can easily be changed to pagers, there's no major problems with it.
My main concern is that I now know about a bit about the workings of a yakuza syndicate and the operations of the redlight district in the 70s and the late 80s - present. I like to see Rikkai as one of the last remaining syndicates that is more "traditional", but still, it's moving towards pure "crime" rather than "bushido". So it seems like 70s to mid-80s is the best period.
The 70s, however, have more interesting things to write about. But fuck if I know anything else about the 70s - I have info on fake agencies set up by cooperating yakuza and HK triads to bring unsuspecting women into Japan to be prostitutes, but I don't even know what sort of cars they drove or what was "trendy" back in those days. =_=
Late 80s to early 90s had the Chinese gangs moving into Japan, and also gangs of black people gaining a foot hold, generally trying to steal yakuza business in the redlight districts and organising major crime deals, people smuggling etc... though I suppose those were more Tokyo-based.
The early 90s is easier to write, but it has less interesting things, though maybe I can argue that outside of Tokyo the changes were less, and slower. I could talk about Renji's strategy against the introduction of the Botaiho (gang countermeasures law aimed specifically at large yakuza syndicates. It was designed against Yamaguchi-gumi, really) - or have him ramble on about it at Niou (poor Niou). This time period fits less well with the background settings I have for Niou and Yagyuu. Those I can alter without too much trouble, though.
I can't find the best time to set my story in. There are bits I like from each period... chances are I could borrow freely from different times and nobody will know or care anyway, but I don't want to do that unless I have no choice. =/
Oh and? Niou and Yagyuu might not get to sleep together. :( I'm sure they do it, later on, but probably not in the story.
