Surely there must be a term similar to "passive aggressive", to describe someone who says "don't look at me" just so that she gets people's attention.

Could it be "tricksy attention whore"?

No idea - but you reminded me that Tony Blair apparently uses a not dissimilar technique in the House of Commons. Instead of raising his voice to be heard, he lowers it, so everyone has to shut up to hear what he's saying.

I always just call it fucking obnoxious, but that's not a technical term, sadly. :(

Generally I think it's called something like 'fishing for compliments', when you berate yourself in hopes that someone will contradict you.
