pezntl says that there is service being provided to my address already, they can't open an account for me until they find out what's actually going on.
(A bit of background history: the previous tenant was a student who left without paying final month rent. She probably didn't cancel her broadband.)
So they've taken my mobile no., and are looking at what's going on with that account and will call back. I can't use that net because I don't have the login details anyway.

[edit] If I can get ntl, I'll just buy a skype-in number, probably a HK-based one, so that my family can call me for free. I have no use of a phone anyway.
