If I can get the free tickets with air miles, money shouldn't be a problem. Time probably won't be, either, if I'm not having to spend Christmas away from my family. Let me do some more checking, I like to have my plan laid out if I'm going to be presenting it.
I think the earliest I could LEAVE from Japan and still use miles is 1/1/07. So we could do hatsumode at a shrine if we wanted to. ^_^
