TB cosplay help

What's the pattern on here?

I've looked at a lot of reference pictures, and all I see are the openings around the edge of that piece of armour, but for the life of me I just can't see the pattern in the middle. It doesn't seem to be the goat-flower-snake thing like on the top... but what is it? -_-

(for the nth time I curse myself for trying to make Cain rather than Abel. There are so many Abel cosplay guides online!)
