And because I haven't spammed enough yet
Oct. 5th, 2009 10:45 am(Today's task is to continue editing the same report I've been editing since mid-late 2007. Forgive me for my procrastination.)
Regular Dave (24/25 Oct, London Expo)
Using my last resort to solve the armwarmer-glove problem. Ordered a pair of leg warmers which hopefully will be tight enough that they won't look very loose on my arms. (Regular armwarmers aren't long enough) And then I'll wear a pair of fingerless gloves. With it all being white hopefully it won't be too obvious that I made it from two separate things.
Gotta sort out the belts on the trousers and chaps. They were such a nuisance when I wore them in August.
The Gae Bolg is still the same as the last time I posted a picture of it. Really need to get a move on and find some more foam to make the lasts of the decoration. And that goddamn blob on the top, what am I going to dooooooo. Then I need to "rust" the whole thing and spray a couple of layers of clear on top.
Okay, gotta make this one a priority since there's little time left.
Ballroom Dave (29 Nov, Cosplay Ball)
White trousers. Will look into shops today. I guess white trousers aren't that practical so they're hard to find. I want a pair in men's cutting. And no I don't want linen ones dammit.
Buttons ordered for the waistcoat. Still worrying over making buttonholes. What if they don't match perfectly? What if I screw them up some other way? D:
Will try to make a cravat. Gotta see if I have the material. Not sure what colour, white I guess. Could make it same material as the waistcoat...
After doing the above, I think I'll be ready! It's just a case of wearing it all together and seeing if the shoes look all right and if I want to paint the sword on the back or not.
Faize (3 Dec, VGL if I make it in time)
Gold material arrived. It's not as light a gold as I would've liked, but still far better than all the ones I've seen in shops. This means I can finish decorating the shorts and then attach the lining and hem the thing. And do the same for the top which I'd finished constructing last night. That one is going to have a zipper on the back.
Still no idea how to do the rest yet. :D/ Will think about it when I'm done with the sewing.
Zidane (some time around CNY)
Haven't started yet. XD
Hope you guys are having a more stimulating day.

Date: 2009-10-05 12:28 pm (UTC)And for the buttons thing, make the waistcoat so it actually uses poppers or velcro, and sew on the buttons in the right place yourself. 8Db That's how a Taiwanese coser who does a lot of commissions (she's the one that made my DOLLS outfit) makes sure that everything lines up neatly + it's easier to put on & take off~
*can't wait to see Zidane mwahahahaha*

..........that is the cleverest thing EVER. ♥
XDDD So many costumes, so little time!

Date: 2009-10-05 01:37 pm (UTC)Yes isn't it ♥ Plus it means your costumes won't wrinkle up where the button holes are, especially if you use velcro, and it will stay all straight and ironed out~ 8Db
LOL dude I am in the same boat. >> Actually I wanted to ask you, do you have any idea how I could make a dragon head like this??? -> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/lina-lau/p07.jpg

Date: 2009-10-05 01:59 pm (UTC)I was thinking building it layer by layer with craft foam and then smoothing over with putty of some sort to smooth out the lines. =A=;;;

Date: 2009-10-05 02:20 pm (UTC)Aaaaaahahahaha maybe I really will have to end up ordering it from a fibreglass factory in China. But.. $2000 for a dragon head I'll only wear a few times seems so excessive.........

Date: 2009-10-05 02:22 pm (UTC)......Eeep. Yeah, that's expensive. Unless you know there will be people wanting to buy it off you afterwards.

Date: 2009-10-05 02:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, even if people will buy it off me afterwards, they won't buy it at anything close to that price so I'm not altogether sure it's worth it. >: S'not like I have loads of money to burn either. I'm guessing the wire base + paper mache/ foam/whatever I can think of is the best method but gotta iron out the details x_X;;

Date: 2009-10-05 04:03 pm (UTC)Get another pair of leg warmers and cut fingers manually. I know what you're thinking "OMG knit will fall to peices"
Well actually, a lot of leg warmers have this nylon-like binding on the end. [at least the ones in shops here do] It's a great place to make fingers.
...well at least that's what I did for my Dave gloves. Mayhaps I should post a pic of it?

Date: 2009-10-05 06:53 pm (UTC)Also: Have you ever made boot covers?

Date: 2009-10-05 07:58 pm (UTC)another option which might work is buying ribbed material. you know, what those 'wife-beater tanks' [I honestly don't know what they're really called] are made of. You can get material with pretty deep ridges, practically looks knitted.
I have some of this material at home so I might post a pic when I get home to show you what I mean. I bought it to use for Dave's boots.

Date: 2009-10-05 09:50 pm (UTC)just be warned, you still have to sew the tight-knit quite tight. I sewed up and down probably 3 times. Plus the seam will not be pretty at all, but when you turn it inside out you hardly notice.
Lol so no comment on the fail? XD Go me. I rock.
hmmm I wonder if there's a way to make a controlled hole so I don't have to start over.
