Writing, and adventures at Waterstone's
May. 28th, 2009 04:00 pmThe last chapter of fic finally decides to take the direction I want it to take. The new struggle is to get it right.
After this, the massive edit and figure-out-a-fic-title exercise. Eeep. How about "Epic Sovani Angst and Allan's Split Ears"? "TORGAL IZ DA SEX"? "Emma > All"? Or "A Story That Explains Why Everyone Will Die Of Cirrhosis (unless they farm for butterfly or dragon livers for transplants)"?
Bookshop called me today saying The Angel's Game is out. When I pre-ordered it, the conversation went like this:
Pez: I want to pre-order The Angel's Game please.
Ladies at Till: Oh, the new Dan Brown?
Pez: ........No, The Angel's Game. *points at biiiiiiig poster near the front door saying the book is available for pre-order now*
LaT: *look at each other, puzzled* *peer at poster* .........Oh. *clueless look* *poke around on computer* It's not on our system yet, but I'll put in an order for you. *peer at poster again* The author is... (Somebody came to pre-order a book AND THEY DIDN'T WANT THE DAN BROWN?!?!)
Pez: .....thank you. (orz) (I DON'T WANT DAN BROWN TYVM.)
Today I picked it up, and it was a different person at the till. The convo went like this (shortened):
Pez: Hi, I came to pick up my book.
Man at Till: Of course! Your surname please?
Pez: *gives*
MaT: Oh, I spoke to you on the phone earlier! *pulls out book* Here you go!
Pez: :D *sparkles*
MaT: Lots of people have been waiting for this! :D
Pez: Yeah yeah, I've been waiting too. (You mean other people also ordered this from your shop? Not the Dan Brown?)
MaT: *starts talking about the wait for translated novels and how he loves Japanese and Chinese literature but it always takes forever for the English version to come out*
Pez: Awwww. XD
MaT: But with Murakami's books, they translate it immediately after he finishes writing, so the Japanese and foreign release are around the same time.
Pez: Well, I wouldn't be surprised, he's Murakami, afterall. XD
People who know the stuff they're selling = much more pleasant shopping experience.
