Date: 2007-06-21 11:52 am (UTC)The fact that they have BLING on their sign there makes me chuckle.
And it sort of reminds me in the louvre in the fact that they are both museum/galleries in old buildings (some older than others clearly >.>) and then this weird glasss strucure was added on. Though I think it looks pretty cool.
And one day, I'll learn commenting after just getting up leads to rambling.

Date: 2007-06-21 01:41 pm (UTC)BLING!

Date: 2007-06-21 01:43 pm (UTC)(I don't like it either. I have high respects for its structural engineers though!)
(and Bling is WIN. I posted it for the bling sign board!)

Date: 2007-06-21 01:44 pm (UTC)I'm more interested in how the engineers made it stand up.

Date: 2007-06-21 01:48 pm (UTC)(Same. XD I can't imagine having to make that work as a structurally sound building!)
(It's so out of place that it's even funnier than it would have been for just the sign. 8D)

Date: 2007-06-21 01:55 pm (UTC)her "water-fish"fame...Totally. And even if they manage to make it stand up, the actual building process must've been so difficult (the side of the facade that's overhanging the road, for example. Making it stand up and getting the space to build it means they probably had to close the road down when it was being built). So many architects use comp programmes and generate weird forms that they don't understand if it can be constructed or not. =/
It'll forever be known as the Bling Museum to me. XD

Date: 2007-06-21 02:03 pm (UTC)Yeah... not only the building itself, but construction must have cost a lot. :/ I wonder if it's really worth it sometimes, for the amount of disruption that building something like that can cause... ah, the joys of over reliance on CAD programmes.
XDDDDDDD A worthy name, I say.
Btw, what manga do you want from HK. :o

Date: 2007-06-21 02:16 pm (UTC)People are always so desperate to reinvent something and making a statement.
Isn't it just? XDDDD
Oh ♥, PoT vol.... 34 onwards, me thinks. I think I have up to 33.... >_>""""

Date: 2007-06-21 02:20 pm (UTC)Well, there's only so much you can work with in architecture I guess - if you don't reinvent you are stuck with being a "follower" of a certain school, so to speak. :/
I approve. 8D
Ah, ok, next time I go to the manga shop I will take a look for you! :o

Date: 2007-06-21 02:24 pm (UTC)It's a personal thing, but I prefer old buildings to new. If I was an architect, I'd use ideas from old churches etc and have the building built with stones and have statues and carvings everywhere. XD
Thanks!!!

Date: 2007-06-21 10:08 pm (UTC)It was designed on a napkin. :D
Date: 2007-06-21 10:36 pm (UTC)I have to say that it's looking a lot better than it did before. While it was under construction, it looked... special.
While I don't hate the new building, I'm not happy that they had to tear down a sizable section of the museum to build it -- especially since it doesn't increase the size of the building so they can still only display less than 5% of their collection. It also put the ROM in debt.
Stupid napkin.Oh, and they were going to build a 40 story condo behind it to match, but everyone vetoed the idea. XD
