Been reading fics at [info - community] decyphered, and there is TLR/FFXII crossover. It makes so much sense it hurts. I can even imagine that Rabanastre being part of Athlum. Oh my God. It probably does help that the idea of Torgal/Fran is very hot. Balthier, unable to skypirate for one reason or another (saving funds for repair/new ship/hiding from a warrant), can run a pub similar to Warrior's Honor. Maybe he is really the bartender at Warrior's Honor, being incredibly gay to avoid detection. Vaan is Pleasant Young Man mwahahaha because I don't care about him.

Best for all: BASCH CAN BE EMMA'S HUSBAND. Yesyesyesyesyes.

*googles* Okay, Wikipedia says the FF12 team visited TURKEY for inspiration. Ha. HA! It wasn't like we weren't just saying yesterday that Athlum reminds us of Istanbul.

Okay I'm being too excited. Need to... get back to work... Basch/Emma OMG.

Oh, hi. I'm a nice, balanced person. Really.

Oh, hi. I'm a nice, balanced person. Really.

Nobody ever believes me when I say that sort of thing.

I don't know if anyone ever believes me.

But oh, I can't replay FF12. It wasn't even a great game. Why should I replay it when I haven't even finished TLR PC? Oh God. So many things to do. Basch/Emma OMG.

I never finished FF12--I got a fairly long way in and enjoyed it but then I put it down for a month to play something else (I don't even remember what) and couldn't face trying to remaster the gambit system.

Basch/Emma would be *awesome*.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
There was just something really BAH about the whole story. And Ashe got annoying. I don't even remember much of it, just remember the BAH-ness and the feeling of disappointment. Reading Wikipedia...

Executive producer Akitoshi Kawazu was pleased by Famitsu's rating but admitted that he thought the game was not perfect; he felt that the storyline did not meet some fans' expectations.[121] Kawazu expressed his frustration and regrets regarding the storyline, citing creative differences between the PlayOnline and Final Fantasy Tactics members of the development team.[122]

So I wasn't the only one. The most annoying thing is because it's a bloody FF game it became one of the best games of the year by default and got all the sales. *looks mournfully at TLR* ARGHHHH.

*cough* Anyway. This crossover. Do want, very much. Maybe I do need to replay FF12. >> It's just the time thing. TLR PC to finish, plus a few other games (been replaying FF10 too), lots of cosplays to do, no weekends to myself because of family... how am I going to cope?

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
I remember being a bit meh on a lot of things about it, really. I didn't like the MMORPG feel of it much.

Ah, FF10. See, *that* was an awesome game. Though since I'm already replaying KH2 *and* I have Xenosaga waiting to be started I really shouldn't add *another* game to my list either. Need to keep on with TLR PC and screenshotting. :P And I really need to start on making the Rush outfit...

I think we need clones, Pez. Clones that can earn actual money and free up that time for fandom activities instead.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
FF10 was AMAZING. But trying to play it after TLR was tough because... "hey, I didn't realise the whole battle system was so stupid," mostly. TLR spoiled me with it brilliant battle system. And the reduction in graphics levels was hard to take in.

Ah, KH. I stopped before the final area/place/thing because I think I got distracted by sidequests and then never finished. I never got really into the game because it's got lots of FF links and the only FF I've played are 8, 10 and 12, so the FF7 nostalgia factor meant nothing to me. Plus, although the whole game's very cute, the Disneyness isn't something I enjoyed, not being a Disney fan and therefore going O_o whenever Donald Duck appeared on screen. >_>" I prefer my graphics shiny and hot. XD

The girl who's posting gamescripts on DW seems even more insane about TLR than I am, a thing I didn't think was possible before. She's screencapping EVERYTHING and has all the sidequests sorted in folders, and all that. I think that's what I need to do, too, for quick and easy reference.

If you don't start on the outfit soon Dave will be sad!

You wouldn't happen to know a really rich guy who wants to randomly pay for an insane person's living expenses, would you? For a scientists who specialises in cloning?

*holds up sign: WILL HEADTILT FOR MONEY*
storme: (Rush determined)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah, the graphics drop is sad. That happens when I try and replay FF8--I adore the game but my eyes bleed for a while.

I found KH sort of diverting although I suck at real-time fighting stuff; KH2 is like the designers thought 'you know, we could make this premise vastly weirder'. I enjoyed the game but it is utterly batshit crazy by the end of it.

Yeah, I was impressed by the scripts! I don't have the dedication to screencap every single line of dialogue in the way she seems to. And it entertains me--there may not be many TLR fans out there but man, there are *dedicated* ones.

Yes, yes, Dave will sadface at me. I know. Maybe this weekend, if I can drag myself away from screenshotting and making icon bases long enough. :P

I wish I knew people like that, but if I did then I suspect they would have a queue of supplicants a mile long. I could definitely do with some clones, though.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, I'm much more happy turn-based as well. SO4 was quite difficult for me. =/ Luckily most battles were okay with just buttonsmashing.

I would do what she's doing if I had the time. Apparently she works 4-days week so that probably helps. I'd love to be translating more doujinshis too, but that takes forever. It's the time factor again.

Dave says you should stop staring at pretty Rush on the screen and start making pretty Rush. XD

Gah, damn. I thought you might have a better chance since you work in IT-ish stuff. Engineers are always poor. And extremely stingey. :(
storme: (cat leaping on bus)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I was button-bashing most of the way through SO4.

Hmm, another day off a week would be awesome. The trouble I have is that on weekends I just want to hang out with the SO and relax. Getting around to actually *doing* things isn't always the most appealing option. :P

I am *also* staring at pretty Dave! And pretty other characters too.

Alas, my corner of the IT world is not the wealthiest. And I don't think I even know anyone at Google who'd be up for that, alas. Sigh. :(

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
I can imagine. That only means he should help you with the sewing so you can be doing it together.

Not even at Google? ;; Where are all the rich people gone?

I'm already writing Basch/Emma. Right now.
storme: (Rush profile)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, he's already annoyed because the sewing machine is in the same room as the keyboard, and I steal his chair for sewing work. :P

Actually, that's a point; we have guests coming to stay at some point and I should get a shake on if only so I can actually work in that room. Hm hm.

I think they're in Tahiti. Or Fiji. They don't seem to be in Canary Wharf any more, anyway. :S

Huzzah!

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
XD (Um, I've used sewing machine on the floor before. It's possible and not too bad for short periods of time, but overall I wouldn't recommend it.)

Gah. I knew I'm on the wrong continent! I'm gonna go get a lottery ticket tonight. =/

:D Then I wish you *extra* good luck!

*nod*

I am now poking around the wiki again, though, boggling anew at game mechanics I didn't really fully grasp the complexity of. This game is so complicated.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of those games where you can stumble your way through or play obsessively over and over and still enjoy it. I definitely stumbled my way through it. Even now I still don't understand most of the mechanics. XD Or maybe I just don't care enough to investigate! There's too much to learn. @_@

[identity profile] vanillafire.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I am playing TLR PC and really enjoying it! I've only just done the Mr Digg quest, so I'm right at the beginning, but it's ace. :D I especially love Dave and Emma at the moment. The battle system is sometimes confusing, but I think I'm working it out, and I love complex battle systems in RPGs. :D

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! \o/ Yeah the system can be confusing, especially since they actually explained nothing. orz And it works quite differently from the systems most people are used to (FF ones, mostly.)

Just one thing you might want to know, though... the battle rank? Don't be in any hurry to raise it. It's not the same as the "levels" as people are used to.

Emma and Dave. Both amazing. ;;

[identity profile] vanillafire.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's been confusing me with which options are available in each round. I can't work it out! Should I be disabling some people's arts/abilities, or is that something I should only do when I really know what I'm doing? XD I'm happy it works in a way that's different to FF, as I tend to get bored with plain turn-based very quickly. I like systems like Grandia's (old-school now XD) or Star Ocean's (last I played was 3, though).

Taken on board. :D I gain battle rank by fighting, right? So I want to fight to get stronger, but not too much?

I'm in love with Emma's voice actress. She's amazing. ♥

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Disable arts when you know what you're doing. XD What options become available depends a lot on who's the leader. If you have Pagus leading, for example, his union will likely get more mystic arts option. Which means that, if you stuck combat-only people in his union, then even when you get to select mystic art you'll get Pagus throwing a mystic and everybody else just doing an ordinary hit. =/ It probably matters less in the beginning but if you pay attention to what class your characters are, you'd get a clue. For example I think Dave starts as a Mysticknight, so he can do both mystic and combat. A union he leads is more likely to get mystic as well as combat art choices.

BR is hard to explain, but in a short...

- BR goes up if you fight a lot.
- Higher BR means the monsters you meet will be harder (they hit harder)
- Higher BR does NOT mean you're stronger. This is because BR does not equal gaining experience.
- This means if you want an easy ride you actually want to keep your BR low. XD;;;; Obviously you can't just not fight at all, so you should pick your battles.
- You get more experience by keeping a long battle chain, fighting tougher monsters, fighting more monsters in one battle, killing them quickly, dealing high damage, receiving less damage... stuff like that.

So, if you fight something and the notice that a lot of people are gaining skills/stats during the victory screen, that's a good monster to fight for more experience per BR gain!

If at this point you're wondering what BR is really for... there are weapons that some characters will only start getting at a certain BR, plus other things. More info here.

Really, if you just go through the game normally, do the sidequests and don't obsessively fight lots of cheap enemies thinking you can easily "raise level" that way, you'll be fine. There is no need to rush and raise BR in order to get certain weapons/arts. You'll get them/get asked to build them when the time comes that you need such weapons!

BR's effect (that of screwing you over if you raise it too fast) has been toned down a long way in the PC version. Apparently.

Oh, and a note on classes: you'll get options to direct class/arts/skills growth for your leaders every so often; they may ask where they should focus their training or if they should learn a new skill set. This will affect the classes somewhat, along with what arts you're making them use most and so on; if you're pushing them towards more mystic skills, they'll flip over to a mystic class path, etc. Detailed info on classes is on the wiki.

I love the wiki so much. It's so detailed. I have no idea how I managed to complete the game without it, in retrospect. :P

(Oops, should have posted this in reply to [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire, really. You know this stuff already. :P Oh well.)

The wiki is a treasure trove! There must be people even more obsessed than we are, experimenting with every combination and every option repeatedly, otherwise I've no idea how they find out about all that stuff. >>

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
How much of the obsessive detail is in the japanese guide?

But yeah, even so, a lot has to be out of rabidly-obsessive replaying and note-taking. Pretty damned impressive, really.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot! But the Japanese guide only covers the xbox version, so whoever figured out the PC stuff... O_O

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, *is scared*

Still, once again, nice to not be the most obsessive fan out there, huh?

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. But it also depends on what you consider "obsessive"... *thinks about the Gae Bolg at home, and that horrible desire to make Frostblade*
storme: (dave kellendros)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggle*

Okay, nice not to be the *only* obsessive fan, then. And your brand of obsessiveness ends up with pretty shiny toys to play with!

(Oh, god, Frostblade. That would be very pretty but very very hard to make, surely?)

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The shiny toys take up a lot of room!

(I've NO IDEA how to make it. Buy lots of plastic icicles they use for Christmas decoration and then glue them together, maybe. orz)
storme: (Rush staring up)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Roomspace is well worth using for toys!

Dave does like such *sparkly* toys, too. Rush has kind of boring taste, really (except in Daves).

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I think to myself it is a good thing that they hadn't produced any merchandise. *sigh*

Well Dave will just have to teach him!
storme: (David and Rush chibi)

[personal profile] storme 2009-10-02 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh, maybe. But I still wish I had little Dave and Rush statues to gaze at.

I'm sure Dave can teach Rush many many things about sparkliness.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dave cannot help but wonder if Rush is sparkly when he... oh wait, spoiler. *censors!*
