WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO???

Girl slashed in classroom attack

(I wonder what kind of detention sentence they can give to a 12 year old...)

When I went to school, the worst thing I had to worry about was someone trying to convince me that smoking was cool. This is very, very scary.

The 'toughest' sentence would most likely be a secure children's unit until she's 18. If they thought she was actually mentally ill, then a secure hospital 'at Her Majesty's pleasure' - i.e. until such time as she was considered cured/safe which could in theory be never.

My (then) stepsister was attacked and left for dead by a 13 year old boy when she was 9. Little factual details tend to stick with you.

The world has come to a place where violence is a way of life and bullying is acceptable... I think *sigh* During my school years the only worried I have is being bullied by the Head Master heh^^

Wow, that's scary. They think it was a pencil sharpener blade too. Some things you just can't stop going into schools and with the teacher student ratio what it is you can't watch everyone all the time.

I can't believe they're only 12 though X|

Sometimes I think it's to do with the amount of protection children get these days. Teachers can't shout, spank their hands, or do anything to discipline children without worrying about the legal consequences. But, to make an extreme example, how would a child know it's bad to run across a road without checking for oncoming cars? They can't learn it by experience, and their common sense doesn't stretch that far yet, so you can't reason with them, you'll have to shout at them so that they don't do it again, and when they grow a bit older, they'll know why you did what you did. Similarly, bullies don't know what "emotional trauma" or "scarred for life" mean, because they're too young to understand. But then teachers stand helpless because any form of discipline could cost their jobs...
