(no subject)

It's me again... just remembered another thing.

When I was having a drink after my non-blood-giving session, there were a couple of women there also. One of them said that she's had a headache all day, but after giving blood, the headache's gone. And then two other women said they've had the same experience, headaches always go after donating blood. O_O

The ancient art of bloodletting actually works???

[edit] http://science.howstuffworks.com/question648.htm: "Primary headaches can also be caused by too much blood flow. For example, if you have read How Caffeine Works, you know that caffeine reduces blood flow in the brain. Some pain relievers contain caffeine to take advantage of this effect. If you have been taking caffeine every day and you stop, you can get an incredible headache because of the increased blood flow in your brain."

Also read that lowering blood pressure can help reduce headaches. Perhaps that's got to do with it too?

O_O!!!!

Yuki says he's been quite convinced of the good of bloodletting for years. ^_^

Tezuka agrees to the benefits of bloodletting completely.

(I'm at work but on MSN because I'm so bored!)

Just in case you're interested sometimes, take a look at a book called "Honey, Mud, Maggots" - it's about a scientific study of whether some old folk remedies work, and if they do, why. Totally fascinating.

I'd heard that about caffeine, and nosebleeds sometimes have a similar effect with me. Not that this is a recommended treatment.

People look at me like I'm nuts when I drink coffee with a headache... it's because it helps the meds work faster...

Plus sleeping with my head elevated helps headaches away... laying prone = more blood flowing to my head and makes the migraines more severe.

And don't EVER ask me to stop drinking coffee like some clueless people keep insisting. I tried once. I thought I was going to die as my head was splitting.
