Wordpress help please!

I want to have a gallery for photos. Some of these photos will be shown on a Wordpress blog. The blog entry will have a link to the relevant album at the gallery for more photos. I'd like a gallery that allows me to have albums, and allows me to add dates/descriptions to photos. If it can generate its own medium-sized pic, so that I can show that on the blog and link it to the bigger one at the gallery page, that would be perfect. A search function would also be nice. I don't mind if it needs a database as long as I don't have to fiddle with it.

There are separate php softwares such as Tinywebgallery, Coppermine, Piwigo, Zen Album etc. There are also Wordpress plugins.

Any recommendation and advice on what I should use?

I'm being recommended Picasa & lightbox. Or http://liferain.com/downloads/wp-piclens-plus/ and http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nextgen-gallery/ as wordpress plugins.

I just installed NextGen but it's totally confusing me - I can find it at the admin dashboard for uploading images and putting those on the blog, but how I can create a publically-accessible gallery out of it is totally stumping me.

Yeah, I have no idea from here. I am looking at the FAQs and the installation notes but I assume you probably have already. Hmm.

I think I'm starting to make sense of it... I can post the gallery itself to the blog page, but not have a separate browsing page for photos. http://nextgen-gallery.com/gallery-page/

Ah. I guess that makes sense, ish, as a blog attachment? You'd just link to the blog page if you needed the gallery overview.
