Why are the ZukaFuji fics these days so horrific? Is it because I've stopped writing for that pair? But honestly... everything I click on ends up burning my eyes. And with every ZukaFuji exchange, the overall quality of the work goes down by another notch. It's so sad. They used to be my favourite pair. You know, there's badly-written fic with potential (I happily read them and I write them myself), and then there's BAD fic. The thing is, those writers seem to be so self-consumed (is this the word I'm looking for?) and they ego-stroke each other so hard they never actually realise how crap they really are. Sure, writing (fanfics) is about what the writer enjoys the most, primarily, but how much do you really enjoy it if you don't seem to be seeking to improve? I read work from some time ago and ones from recently and they still all look the same. So how much do they love writing, really? Do they love writing, or do they love the "popularity" it gives them?
No, I'm not going to tell them they suck and what they need to improve on because it seems to me they never read anything that's not on a screen.
On a very loosely-related note, if a fic rec says anything along the lines of "this fic deserves a lot more comments/love than it's getting", then I wouldn't read it. Reccing something should not involve describing the Tragedy! Injustice! Unfairness! that something has suffered. Just tell me why you enjoyed it and why you think I'd enjoy it. More than that and it's guilttripping and hard-selling and it's the quickest way to make someone feel turned off.
No, I'm not nice today. Tomorrow I'm going to Altrincham. 9 hours roundtrip for a 1-2 hours meeting I shouldn't even be going to. This is my happy face.

I want to like it, but there is nothing to like! Everything I've read recently just rehashes all the old stories. :( What happened to originality? Seriously, at this point I would read a super-awful OOC Tezuka/Fuji space opera just for the novelty. (Or maybe I wouldn't, but you get the idea.)

the dark sideRikkai. There are still quite a few good writers and improving writers over here. >Dno subject
D:
I'll keep working on it. XD

Is it bad that I've mostly given up on reading fanfic if I don't know the writer?

And there's no way they can write that tripe and 'love writing'. They're trying to reel in other fantards to flail with and that's about it. :|

It's not even fun to flail anymore because flailing with morons isn't fun in the slightest.
no subject
Ugh, no kidding. So many of the people I liked fanflailing with have moved onto to fandoms that I'm not interested in.

Yeah. Most of my favourite writers are gone and I'm not too keen on the ones that were left behind. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's characterization thing. I can't stand how they write my babies. Not in the least. Not how they do the gay for only you cliche or how everyone cries or how Fuji is some freaking pussy. *stops ranting or she'll never stop*

Ahaha, it's not mean at all - it's just the truth. :D It took me a while to develop an affinity for Tezuka/Fuji, mainly because so few people take the time to write them well. Same for Golden Pair (which I love) - you either get Eiji-the-wonder-uke or Oishi-the-wife-beater.
Uh huh. I'm only gay for you. Blah.

I don't think my writing has improved at all over the past 3 years but it's certainly not because of ego-stroking by hordes of fans!

You've probably written enough to have settled with a particular style!

We need to give our movement a name.

Hmmm, we need a really good name. I must think on this.

At this sort of time, we need Unni and her punny skills!
no subject
We do!! I'm certain she would want to be in on the burning of fandom. It is far too overgrown. We must raze it to ashes so that only the strong will survive!

Agreeing with most everyone up there! I do read random people's Rikkai sometimes (I was never into Tezuka/Fuji myself), but somehow or other, even in exchanges, I always end up liking stuff written by the same writers, lol. It's... a little disturbing.
HAHAHAH!!! That "this fic deserves a lot more comments/love than it's getting" phrase is PRICELESS. Thumbs up! Good job!

It is really hard to preserve love for the pairing in such a case. but I hold on ))) still love both HarryDraco and ZukaFuji cos I KNOW there are really good fics/authors that reflect my own perception and emotions about the pair.
tough times though, yeah. must be strong ))))

Just have to... keep rereading the old fics, because none of what's come out recently (by the general fandom, not the awesome people on my flist) is even worth reading!

It's true; so much of the quality is gone from TezuFuji. D:
And for some reason, most of the D1 fics I've read are really good. >________>

I wonder, maybe because Seigaku's there since the beginning, anyone who's read/watched a bit of the series might start writing them. But the other schools that come in later require more "dedication" from fans... they have to keep watching/reading to get to those schools, and by that time those fans have a much better understanding of the series and characters. They probably also have a longer attention span. >>
