The harddrive fell...

URGENT HELP PLEASE.

My sister's external harddrive has just made friends with the floor. Now the computer wouldn't read it at all.

I *know* dropping it more or less = death, but anyway, has anyone had similar experience and had been able to rescue any data at all? There are things in the drive that she'd be willing to pay for data recovery, but is it even worth trying?

I looked up data recovery a little when Sadaharu's hard drive died, but it was all way too expensive for me, so I wouldn't know what it's worth. :/

I suppose it all depends on how high the drive fell from and how much data she wants to get back...

Sorry I can't be of more help. :(

She's got professional work there, so she'll pay if she has to. :(

It really depends on whether the harddrive broke or the connections in the casing. Get the casing open, stick the harddrive internally into a computer and see if it works ...

*nod* If it's an IDE one, I'm thinking about doing that. Right now she's at work and can't even tell me what make and model no. it is. =_=" Searched a bit online and people are swearing by the freezer technique, but I don't know............ >_>""

My friend's hard-drive also died this past Saturday here in Uncle Sam's land.

If the hard drive is dead and there is no way you can get it to work even by putting it in as in internal disk, then your sister is in a tough spot.

Data recovery prices here go almost to 5000 dolars, so it's a bit OUCH

I hope everything turns out for the best.

Ouch... I was going to say "nevermind, it was her boyfriend who dropped it so he's the one paying" but that isn't the sort of money either of them should pay when they're planning a wedding. =_=

It goes up to that, yes, but I seem to remember some recovery services as 'low' as 500€...
