A question for those who have been in the working world for longer than I have

Christmas Party. You either go by yourself or take a guest. Sometimes people take their sister or something and that's fine too. But what if you take a girl friend? Would that be strange? And if you're a guy, if you take a male friend along, would that be very weird?

Yes, weird. I would assume they're together or very cosy. If you mind the association, I wouldn't do it, unless the party more or less requires bringing a guest along. Personally, I would of course take the gf along if my company's Christmas parties weren't employees only (if she wanted to).

Thought so. Have just been talking about this with coworker who also hasn't got a date to bring along. With girls I think it's ok, with guys it's definitely not ^^""""

Maybe I should take Tez-plush.

Yeah, I think generally the guest is assumed to be a spouse or equivalent, and that's how people will interpret it.

Guest in these contexts usually means spouse or partner. If LB was older, I might get away with taking him (I have no plans to try this) but it would be regarded as a novely.
